ReadyNAS 316: Still Scanning Music Dir After 12+ Hours?

Started Plex scanning a Music directory 12+ hours ago, and it’s still tickin '.

4,731 files in 1,085 subfolders.

Can anybody venture an estimate for how long this should take?

Did you refresh the page since you started the scan? Sometimes it’s just the animation/the web app that get’s stuck while the server is long done scanning.

Yes, and the twirly thing went away - thought I was home free.

But client apps still could not find anything in my library and, when I re-opened Plex on the NAS’s web page, the twirly thing was back.

Somewhere I saw a thread about somebody’s install package missing some component and that causing a similar problem - but, IIRC, that thread was a few years ago.

I guess I’ll just let it go for a few more days and see what happens.

FWIW, I started over and how have Plex populated with my music…Sort of…

  • First thing, I set up a “Music_Test” library - pointing to a single folder with just two subfolders and a total of two tracks in it. Scan took only a few minutes.

  • Then I set up the real “Music” library and aimed it at the parent directory of all 4,500+ tracks and let 'er rip. Took a day or two, but now the import seems to be complete.

  • But, when I go to open up a list of Albums, it’s not happening. “There was an unexpected error loading this library” on the Plex web page.

  • OTOH, loading “Artists” on the Plex web page gives me a list of Artists, and when I click, for instance, on “B.B King” I get a five-minute-or-so clock after which a B.B. King track starts playing and, as expected, more tracks play after that.

  • OTOOH, With the Andoid Plex app, it clocks for a few minutes and then throws “Error There was an error navigating to the specified item. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again… This Device”… No problem navigating to the directory in question on the Android device using a file manager app…

  • Going at it via Alexa, there’s this annoying “Welcome to Plex” prompt no matter what I ask for. Haven’t been able to get to to play anything yet, but maybe there’s hope once I get my act together.
