Rearrange your media and library definitions

Hi there

I currently have a SMB share set up so I can transfer new movies too and from my pc to my plex server. as I am encountering an issue with exo player, another use has examined my log files and has suggested the following to start with.

Rearrange your media and library definitions so the Plex data folder is not scanned.

For example, you could move your movies into /data/movies, then add that folder to your movie library. That would avoid Plex scanning its data folder… there fore i need help on doing this within true nas scale, how do i do this. i am a complete noob at this. So how do i do this within truenas

Looking at the other topic you posted in ( Get rid of Exo Player - #31 by FordGuy61 ) it looks like…

  1. when you created the library you added the folder /data with no subfolder for movies
  2. then added movies directly in the folder called /data such as /data/Trolls (2016)

what this means is that every time is scans it scans the entire data folder which can contain things that have nothing to do with your media files.

make a folder that only has your movies in it such as /data/movies put your movie folders in that such as /data/movies/Trolls (2016)

so your movie library set up will be something like image below.

ok i have used a program called winsp and this is where my data is stored

/mnt/PlexMedia33/Movies however plex sees it as data/

what i copy the PlexMedia33/Movies into nedia folder

on what device is the Plex Media Server running
on what device are your media files.

plex media server is running on truenas scale as a app

could my data sets be setup wrong
