So I’ve used Plex for quite some time on my Android TV Box with no issues, but suddenly one day (late April 2021) the UI started operating at around 7FPS, it has an unbearable amount of input delay too, making the menu awful to navigate. Video playback works perfectly fine, though, no problems to speak of.
It started one day after a powercut, the server lost connection and I had to manually restart it. This is the only issue, and could potentially be circumstantial. I’m not sure.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, restarting the server etc. I even tried resetting the Box to factory, nothing has actually fixed or even helped this issue.
Every other device works fine, my Samsung TV running Tyzen works brilliantly, as does any phone in the house. It’s just the Box TV app.
My theory is that it’s actually a recent update that broke it, (The Android TV app is the worst version PERIOD IMO) but I can’t be sure about that either. Please help!
TL/DR - Android TV Box App menu UI is operating at 7FPS
Plex team is looking at it, the same behavior (horrible UI latency) appears on version 8.16.x for Sony and Philips Android TVs too.
Until it gets fixed I sideloaded a 8.15 version and disabled automatic updates for the app, this solved the issues until Plex can isolate and fix the issue.
Don’t suppose you could toss me a link to an Android TV apk? Google’s just giving me garbage, can’t find any 8.15 versions, only standard apk’s for mobile.
Edit: Nevermind, the apk versions for mobile and TV are the same (kind of awesome that it works that seamlessly) This solution worked perfectly, thank you so much.
Same problem for me on Philips Android TV since version 8.16 is out.
I needed to manually install 8.15.0 or 8.15.2 to recover correct UI latency and disable automatic updates too.
Hope developers will find the problem which lasts since some weeks.
