Server Version#:1.19.1.2645
Player Version#:???
App version: 7.30.2.16712 (736367744)
Android 7.1.1
Windows 10 Pro 1903.18362.720
Until now, everything from Plex has worked for us without incident or intervention. This is my first post. Apologies in advance. I am not technical.
We have several tablets used exclusively as Plex Players. They are Nook HD+ with the same standard open source version of Android installed. We have been using these for a couple years without incident.
Recently we starting getting a message “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app”. Restarting things does not help.
This happens when attempting to play recorded or live tv. The same items play fine on other Android tablets and phones.
I cannot find a solution in the forums. Perhaps this is just a “tweak” that someone can point me towards.
Client and server logs are (no longer) attached after more reading.
I have them…
Will figure out how to share…
Added back the client log…suspect the answer is in there
Settings\Advanced\Player\Audio Passthrough was and is set to disabled.
Optional audio support was disabled. I turned on AC3 (the only available choice) before I reported my problem. I just turned it off and tried again as you suggested. No Joy.
When I watch the server console, while recreating the error, I get this message:
Failed to delete session directory (boost::filesystem::remove: Access is denied: “C:\Users\Fair_View\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sessions\plex-transcode-dcc6f30327721938-com-plexapp-android-65334cbb-a8c6-4db8-8208-78b5a19babec\media-00000.ts”)
Does that look like a permission issue on the server? It seems unlikely, since other Android clients work but If so, what is the remedy?
That error is expected when the file doesn’t playback.
Can you get me a new log with that AC3 setting off? With that on, the file was trying to direct play, which wasn’t working. With that off, it should transcode, which sounds like it was trying with the error you mentioned.
Also get me the PMS log from the same time period so I can see if the problem came from that end.
Got the PMS logs you sent me. It shows that the transcoder was having issues reading the source file. i.e. the file was not encoded properly so Plex can’t convert it. This could be why the tablet couldn’t playback the file either. Have you tried other files?
The same file just played on my phone (Android 5.0.1) App, HP10 Tablet (Android 4.4.2) App, Nexus 7 (Android 7.1.2) and Windows 10 laptop Chrome browser.
No files will play on the Nook tablets since the change. I have tried several different recorded shows on 2 different Nooks. Live TV gives the same message.
Nexus is Plex version 7.12.1.9314 Works
HP10 is version 6.17.1.5294 Works
Nook #1 is version 7.30.2.16712 Does not work
Nook #2 is version 7.30.1.16475 Does not work
I think this may be the same issue I have on my xiaomi mibox s since the last update. The current workaround is to disable the new player in settings. Be aware that the old player is a pain to use.
Your xiaomi mibox is not a mobile device. I think the options are different for tablets/phones. I cannot find any ability to turn off the “new player” on settings/advanced. Thanks for the thought though.
I did some research to figure out when my Android 7.1.1 tablets stopped working. I loaded older versions of the app, leaving the server at version#:1.19.1.2645.
Playing recorded content with version 7.27.1.15203 resulted in a message saying "Playback has stopped because the communication to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry’ . Live TV continued working fine.
Starting with version 7.28.0.15501 playing recorded content resulted in the “try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app” message. Live TV continued working fine
This behavior continued through 7.29.2.1607 until I lost Live TV with version 7.30.0.16390. Now I get “try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app” message for everything.
Hey Everyone with an Android Tablet/Device issue,
They know about it and apparently a fix is being worked on ASAP as it affects a lot of users! The issue from what has been gathered isn’t a server issue, it’s a player issue, as I found out after going through my logs with one of the Team members, as we thought it was a rebinding issue… Sadly not that easy.
The issue only show on using WiFi for me, when I use my 4G/Cell Data everything plays via remote, but a friend who I share my server with uses WiFi to connect remotely and he has the same issue as I have with WiFi local, nothing plays… s is got to be the current new player??
Watch the forums for an update soon…
