This one
Thanks. Got it downloaded.
So why not the one with the DPI range? Would that not look better?
I have been seeing the same issue on my Synology DSM7 for the last few weeks (OS and Plex are up to date). The client is for Android TV and is also up to date.
Like others the issue occurs after about 20 minutes, the video appears to stutter/jump about half a second of content.
The issue is much more common on very large file size video such as UHD content which is around 30GB per hour but it can happen for lower bit rate files too.
I’m using an audio system via HDMI out of the TV with an eARC port.
That’s exactly it , my wife doesn’t notice but it bothers me lol
9.28 seems to fix it, so far I haven’t seen anything
I’d be happy to help to diagnose the issue, is there a special version they use that can show more information about the video playing like Kodi , would be useful
Maybe our Problem will fixed too, if this problem from Feb 2022 will be fixed:
Edit: Upps, problem beginn was Oct 2020,
Can someone help test this with me , I’m gonna try it tonight. Gonna update to the latest and test.
Seeing some people saying disable hw overlay in developer options fixes it, I’m gonna test this tonight but would be nice to see if anyone else can confirm
Edit- turning this off breaks HDR , well that’s a bust , back to 9.28 LOL
Just a thought someone might be able to answer. I know everyone is saying rolling back their version of Plex resolves it. Can this also be linked to the rather poorly received Nvidia Shield 9.1.1 update? I see some posts talking about how this update broke frame rate matching and many other things. Lots of owners recommend rolling back to the 8.2.3 firmware on their Nvidia Shield. So does the latest version of Plex have a better time providing 100% smooth playback on that older Nvidia Shield firmware?
Unfortunately no, I’m using Shield v8.2.3 and have the stutter issue on all versions after 9.28.
Ah OK. Well the upside is its far easier side-loading an older version of Plex than it is downgrading the Nvidia Shield to 8.2.3. I have an older one still on that version and newer one on 9.1.1 I have not worked up the motivation to downgrade yet. That’s the one I am using mostly for Plex too which is why I asked.
I watched a 1 hr episode last night on the latest Plex version and had my fingers crossed but I saw one single stutter. That’s one too many really so I will roll back to Plex 9.28.
Is there someone super techy who can somehow work out what changed in the Exo player version after 9.28 to suddenly cause these intermittent stutters, or is it a closed app so only the devs would know?
passthrough enabled ?
It seems to be fixed. We have now played several problem videos without errors.
The 10.22 Alpha, which ChuckPa made available to us, provides a solution.
For those who don’t want to use adb, I wonder when 10.22 will be publicly available? What is the rough timeline for Alpha to release?
I cant describe how excited these comments are making me.
Need to test this so badly…
+1 push to prod <3
I simply copied the Apk to the Shield and clicked it with the xplore app and installed it that way.
Ok so version 10.22 is a massive massive improvement. I played some files and some had 0 dropped frames and no issues at all which is great. But unfortunately for me the issue is still there with other files.
I’ve noticed files with AAC audio play fine no stutter. The nerd stats say the audio decoder is omx.google.aac.decoder.
Files with EAC3 stereo or 5.1 drop frames straight away and show decoder as passthrough.
Another test file has TrueHD the decoder as passthrough but had no drops at all. Certainly any files with issues are EAC3
In my settings I have passthrough enabled.
I hope this helps. Whomever has been working on this issue has made massive strides and I owe them several beers.
I was worried that it might just be TrueHD that was improved. Did you test any AC3 or DTS? I suspect AC3 has the same issue as EAC3, but I haven’t seen much DTS testing being reported by anyone. I’m waiting for it to hit beta before I install and test.
I tested two Movies with DTS-HD MA 5.1 and one with AC3 Stereo, too. 0 frames dropped.
I use passthrough in Plex, Dolby is off in Shield, but formats I have on manuel and all activated. AVR is a Pioneer VSX-LX303, Shield Firmware is 9.2.0, PMS Version is 1.40.4.8679.
Interesting that EAC3 was trouble but AC3 played fine. Thanks for testing further!
Now I have also played a 4K film with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 (EAC3). I got 0 frame drops.
