Recent update causes stutters and audio sync issues

Gonna test this old version. And see if the problem exists after

side loaded client version 9.28.0.3162. to Nvidia Shield and the problem is gone now all are working perfect.

Tested two 4k movies (watching them till the end) with DV + trueHD audio with around 70mb/s bitrate and both played flawlessly.

how can this problem not have been addressed yet?

Having the same issue. If I change the quality settings to “convert automatically” during playback the problem is gone. This for a star trek original episode. The playback on the plex server switches from direct play to transcoding both audio and video. On a shield tv pro over ethernet.

Same issue for me. Any video that has dolby audio stutters, drops frames and de-syncs. Transcoding alleviates the problem, but it not the solution. Posting to keep this thread alive until Plex solves the problem with v9.29.

How is this bug still a thing nearly a year on? Discovered recently after buying a Shield TV (2019).

checked in to see if any update yet… what a surprise still nothing…

Noticed that even with the old version sometimes stutters start right from the start of playing something (always atmos/dv) and only a force quit fixes it, seems when the app been running a while it messes up.
possible this is a workaround on the latest version too. but too tedious to go test it.

Noticed the same issue too, per advice on reddit I sideloaded 9.28 (specifically 9.28.0.3162 from apkmirror) and it’s fixed the issue. I had noticed stuttering before but ended up watching elsewhere, just looked into it seriously as it’s rather annoying.

Seems pretty bad that such a major playback issue has existed since August 2023 with it now being April 2024, any chance of a fix?

just when the a/v sync issue was getting better on MPEG2 Live TV in the last few updates, now we have gone back to the start and it is as bad as can be. Not to mention a/v sync issues after comskip has processed a file. We always had to press skip back and forward to manually re-sync it but now that has to be done like 3 times.

Add me to the list. Tried to watch the Abyss yesterday, and every few minutes the audio would cut out for a half second and then come back on, out of sync. If I backed up the video, it would happen again in the same spot, but stopping (not pausing) and resuming the video would fix it for a few minutes. I’ve had the most recent client for a while, so not sure why it decided to start now. File is remux from the 4K disc with DV and Atmos. Server is running on a Synology NAS and the client is on Nvidia Shield (2019).

Exactly same problem with Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus. It run Android TV 12, last version of Plex client.

Some time 1 or 2 times by movies half second without sound. Mainly with Atmos track. Can’t transcode without lose Atmos metadata. Work correctly on Apple TV 4K.

Problem come from Plex for Android app.

Same Problem here about a long, long time with Shield 2019 Pro v9.2.0 to Pioneer AV Receiver VSX-LX303 and then to Samsung TV GQ75Q60RGTXZG.

I have downloaded
com.plexapp.android_9.28.0.3162-868271524_minAPI21(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a,x86,x86_64)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
Is it the Server Version? I need the 9.28.0.3162 Plex Server Version.
It is a very old file!

@morganj
@sixones
Plex Employee should know what have changed in 9.29.

Also having issues here with my Shield TV 2017. Direct play original quality works for a set amount of time then stuttering begins.

Is there any hope this bug will be fixed.
I’ve been using version 9.27 for over a year now as this bug is still there
Happy to provide any logs or any troubleshooting

Crazy it’s been a year with no fix. I’m still running the old version also.

Shield TV Pro (2017) with Plex 10.17.0.868 and I also have random unfixable stutters every now and then. Surely it shouldn’t be too hard to find out how to fix this, considering everyone is reporting 9.28 and earlier version of Plex are perfect.

There is no setting that I can toggle on/off that seems to fix this, no matter what I try.

Cannot believe this has fixed my issue.

I’d have the random framedrops every movie , cleaned out my Nvidia shield fan, debloated it , made it so only 1 process was running in the background , played with a million settings…

Nope. It’s a Plex app bug and downgrading to 9.28 fixes it. I cannot believe it. Have spend hours on trying to fix it.

What can it possibly be with the new versions that they can’t see !

I think it’s time to create a new thread about this issue with logs from the same movie on v9.28 and the latest version for the Plex devs to looks at.

I might have some time to do this myself in the next few days, but it’s a really time consuming task that a user shouldn’t have to do.

It’s absolutely crazy that this issue has existed for a whole year.

As I understand it, the player (Exoplayer) was updated after 9.28, this contains the error, so Plex can’t do anything about it, only the provider of the Exoplayer can.

I have come to terms with the fact that the film occasionally becomes asynchronous during playback. I then briefly press the remote control back and everything is in sync again.
Sometimes this doesn’t happen at all and sometimes it happens twice per film. Other people look at the same file and have no problems. I suspect my Pioneer VSX-LX303, as with the DTS-HD HRA problem. At that time, Nvidia fixed the problem with firmware 9.0. The only thing that currently helps with our problem is Plex Player version 9.28 or just living with the problem like I do. Every day with the hope that it will be fixed by chance at some point.

Interesting ok thanks for the input

I was watching the logs yesterday while watching a film, problem is they only stay on for 20 mins but it seems to require longer for the problem to show up.
If I’m watching a 1h TV show or movie , issues seem to occur around 40 mins in for me ( generally speaking )

Who controls exoplayer ? Is it Google ? If so I imagine we’re screwed

Would someone mind giving me the direct link to the exact APK Mirror version I need to roll back to please? I found it but there are a few file version for DPI types etc.

This was what I found, is this correct, but do I grab the 160-640dpi or the nodpi version?
