Recent Update: Pause Now Shows Overlay – How to Disable?

I’m using the Plex app on Firestick (version 10.27.1.2743) and recently noticed a change in behavior. Previously, pressing the play/pause button on the Firestick remote would pause the video without bringing up the playback control overlay. After a recent update, pausing now brings up the overlay.

I often pause to read subtitles, so this change is frustrating as I now have to wait for the overlay to disappear. The single-click play/pause functionality still works as expected—I just don’t want the overlay to appear when pausing.

Is there a way to disable it, or is this a permanent change? Any workarounds or settings I might have missed?

Would appreciate any insights, or if Plex could consider restoring the old behavior.

Same issue here. Hate those so called “improvements” that no one ask for.

Hope it will be quickly reverted to previous behavior as it’s major step back in usability.

Pressing the “back” button (circular arrow) once removes the overlay.

I thought I was going crazy yesterday when I noticed this new behavior. Sure, you can press the back button to dismiss the overlay, but now you have to press two buttons just to pause and be able to read something on screen without the overlay bothering you, when before you just had to press pause. The question is why was this changed? You could always pause by invoking the overlay first (press the center button on the remote) and then clicking the pause button on the overlay. Having the direct-pause without overlay was better. I would also vote to have the original behavior restored.
