Recently Added Movies Not Showing on Home Screen, Despite correct Settings

I am going to be migrating my Plex Media Server from my windows pc to a Synology Diskstation soon and am hoping to have this resolved before then.

To summarize, recently added movies is not showing up as a category on my home screen in plex.

I have ensured:

  1. That my library is pinned to the sidebar (all my libraries are)
  2. Visibility is set to “Include in Home screen and global search”
  3. Under Settings > Manage Libraries > Manage recommendations, the categoery “Recently Added Movies” checkbox is ticked for “Library Recommended”, “Home” and “Shared Users’ Home”

Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? I have multiple libraries that label the media type as “Movie” (Libraries such as Documentaries, Movies, Foreign Movies, etc.). The entire category just doesn’t show up.

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523
Player Version#: 1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7 (Plex for Windows)

Bump!

do you have an “other videos” library type also pinned and do you have “merge recently added” enabled?

Yes and Yes.

I have “Merge Recently added” enabled and I do have at least one library that is categorized as “Other Videos” pinned.

There is an issue because an “other videos” library is technically a type of movie library but also not, so the merging of RA causes that weirdness.

I’m not sure which order your libraries are pinned but I have found that which ever of those types is lowest the RA will disappear for that type. I have already made a bug report for this but unfortunately it hasn’t been fixed yet. (I do not have an ETA)

For right now you can either

  1. Reorder the Other Vid library so it is pinned below all the movie libraries (the other vid RA row will not show in this case)
  2. Not pin the Other vid library at all
  3. Disable Merge RA

Do you have any libraries pinned that are “Excluded from Home screen and search”?

There seems to be a bug I’ve found where if you have one of those pinned, and click the Merge recently added it will cause all recently added options to vanish. I’ve got a topic about it here - Plex, Home Screens and Merge Recently Added Item

@robertjse interesting I had not tried that scenario with exclude from home enabled. I will try to reproduce add to bug report. thank you.

Thank you for your suggestions

Solution 1: Did not work for me.
Solution 2: Tried this after 1 didn’t work and it also did not work.
Solution 3: I have too many libraries, unfortunately this is not feasible option.

OMG! This worked!!

if i set a library to not exclude from on home screen it only happens if that library is the top most.

Anyway thanks for more info

Ah, that does seem to work. Weird bug. Think this will get fixed at some point? I don’t want to have to walk like twenty people through reorganizing their libraries if I want to use the Merge option.

Does this bug fix have an ETA yet?

I would try the latest Beta.

Plex Media Server 1.23.5.4801

I don’t think that fixes the issue if the library is set to exclude from home screen, only if RA is disabled in the Manage Recommendation settings

I haven’t installed the beta yet, I’ll try later this week.

The bug I’m having is when “Merge recently added items” is selected, Movies libraries do not show up.
TV Shows and Video libraries do show up.
Even if I de-select “Recently added videos”, recently added movies still do not appear.

I’m having this same issue but with my TV Shows library. With Merge RA on my TV library is missing from the home screen despite it being enabled in the managed library settings. Turning off merge RA fixes it.

@chaberman43 what version number of server are you running? Do you have either of those two TV libraries set to exclude from home screen?

Server version: 1.24.0.4897

Both TV libraries are set to be included in home screen and global search.

Looks like there’s a new beta out so I’ll try that tonight.

This is in the plex web app btw.

This fix doesn’t work.
The BUG of Movies not showing up on the Home Screen or any other tree has RUINED the PLEX Experience and I am left watching the movies on Windows player. I have had this problem ever since I applied the Version upgrade. I am certain that Users are “SKIP this VERSION” in the majority.
Hope you have a patch soon. The TV section works. A frustrated PlexPass User

I am sorry. My issue was with Windows. The Mapped Drive was changed by windows. Restoring back I can now see the Home screen has all the Recent Movies.
