Recognition .mkv files Plex from library a to library b

Server Version#: 3.67.1
Player Version#: 5.5.1.

I have a Synology DS 718+ with two WD 4TB drives and a WD Elements deskopt 6 TB drive. When I copy .mkv files from my NAS disk to the WD elements 6 TB disk, PLex does not recognize the .mkv files. Also not vice versa. Not even if I first copy the .mkv files to the folder ‘Media’, then refresh the library and place the .mkv files in the ‘Movies’ folder. I have also removed all libraries and Plex in the hope that .mkv files that I put on the WD elements 6 TB drive will be recognized by Plex but this does not work either. The naming is as follows: ‘name film’ (year) .mkv

Hopefully someone can help me so Plex recognizes the .mkv files when I transfer them from the NAS disk to the external WD elements disk. Furthermore, Plex works fine with my NAS.

Thanks a lot,

Be well,

Tobias

External drives on Synology behave differently.
They appear as Shares in Control Panel.
Have you given user plex permission to read it?

Hi,

New .mkv files that i put on the external WD element drive are recognized by Plex so I guess that that user plex permission is on to read it.

Please clarify.

Your first statement : Not recognized.
Now: Recognized.

correct, when I copy the .mkv files from the NAS disk to the external WD HDD, Plex does not recognize the .mkv files, but only if they have been on the NAS disk first. If I put .mkv files directly on the external WD HDD, Plex recognizes them. The problem is that my NAS disk gets too full and I want to transfer .mkv files to the new external HDD. These are on the external HDD only Plex does not see them. does this make sense?

Hi,

This make sense to me:

f you have Windows ACL permissions set on the NAS, that could explain it, or if you are using BTRFS on the NAS and ext4 on the WD drive, that may explain it also.

My internal HDD’s in the NAS are BTRFS and the WD external drive is ext4. I will try to frame the external drive to BTRFS. I have a Macbook.

you write:

Regardless, when you move the files to the WD drive, you then need to correct the file permissions on the WD for those files, manually.

Any idea how to do this?

I hope it is possible that the external WD drive is able to do the file permission automatically? I have to find out how to do this in my DSM/filestation.

thanks!

Hi,

I wil transfer all the data on my nas disks to the external disk. Than format de nas disks to ext4 as you recommend and transfer everything back to the NAS disks. I hope that will work.

I realize for my external dive (ext4) to recognize my mkv files first i have to transfer the mkv files from the NAS disk to the external WD disk, format the NAS disk to ext4, put the mkv files back to the NAS disk (ext4 than) and transfer the mkv files back again. Am i right?
