I’m having an issue with Plex Media Server, which I’ve installed on a Synology DS423+ NAS running DSM 7.2. Before using Plex, I worked for a while with Kodi, which I also liked. My file organization looks like this:
HD/Sagas/Saga Name/Movie Name
HD/Animation/Animation Saga Name/Movie Name
Plex is usually very good at scraping my content, but I’ve noticed that some movies aren’t recognized at all. It’s not even a misidentification (which is easy to fix); rather, these files simply don’t show up in the Plex library. All my files are MKVs encoded in h265.
I’ve tried several times to re-scan, but these files remain invisible.
Could anyone help me resolve this issue? If you need more information, feel free to ask.
Thank you for your reply.
However, I’ve already read that page, and I don’t think the issue is really related to file naming.
I’ve had a version of Plex Media Server in the past, and all my files were recognized (even if there were some easily fixable errors). In this case, the files are completely missing from my Plex library.
Do you really think it could still be a naming issue?
Is there anything else I could try to improve the recognition of my files by Plex Server?
Whenever someone says this, its always a naming issue. Older scanners or even older versions of the main scanner were more lenient to non-standard file names. Using subfolders for Sagas makes plex think everything in that folder is the same movie. Odds are plex is listing 1 movie per saga and considering the rest duplicates.
It’s either naming or permissions – or a combination.
Re-applying permissions is always a good thing to verify.
Sending files over the LAN often writes the files with the wrong permissions and Plex can’t see them.
You’re an administrator so you can always see everything but Plex is not privileged. It can only see what you’ve expressly granted permission to.
