Record problem using PLEX DVR on Amazon Fire TV client

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: 7.29.2.16071

I have a working PMS that is fully accessible on my many local and remote devices and I use a VBox TV gateway to stream live TV over a LAN.

Using the DVR through the Windows 10 Web Client all seems to work well. I can record live TV and playback, I can reschedule recordings too, it all seems to work okay.

However, when using the Fire TV app on any of my devices (Firestick 4K, Cube 2 and so on) in general live TV works but the ‘record’ option does not, when selected it just rotates between the basic record window and the one with further options such as selecting the appropriate record folder. Oddly it work just once after a cache purge but is now not repeatable. The EPG does show all of the recording that were set in the Windows 10 web client and the recordings are accessible from the library.

I wonder if it is a drive path reference issue or an Android/Fire TV issue. I have used the normal PLEX interface to set Library references up so they should work (and do in a browser).

Has anyone encountered this issue and/or have a solution?

Try the latest beta and see if that helps…

Hi,
If you mean PMS then I believe the latest is [Windows 7 SP1 or newer] 1.18.8.2527-740d4c206 March 10, 2020. Which is the one I have or have I missed something?

Fire TV Stick beta

@nydave69 thank you for the info, I assumed the full URL is
https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-armv7a-amazon-fireExo-7.30.0.16364-5d527228.apk but can’t find it. Am I correct?

go to the main forum page,
Select Announcements
Locate and Click Plex for Android

scroll to the release you need and select the device that you want the release for…

I see that they have removed the 7.30 releases again… don’t know why (3/24/2020 11:00am)

Android beta builds have their own announcement threads (linked below).

Use the Amazon Fire OS Devices builds for Amazon devices. The Amazon AppStore build is for non-Amazon devices.

To sideload on FireTV devices:

  1. Uninstall current app
  2. Restart FireTV device
  3. Use Downloader app (in Amazon store) to download and install beta release
  4. Launch app, authenticate, etc

Note sideloaded apps do not auto-update like apps from the app store. You have to manually install each release. To go back to the production releases, simply uninstall the beta release, restart the device, and install the version in the app store.

FYI, not sure restart step is actually necessary. Just me being overly cautious about clearing out leftover stuff after uninstalls. I do the same on PCs, etc.

@FordGuy61 thank you for directing me to the latest beta. I installed it and noted some extra features such as long press in the guide to go directly to record but sadly once there it just jumps back and forth between the two record popups where library storage location etc can be selected and I never get ‘recording scheduled’. Unless someone is aware of the issue or a possible configuration error on my behalf I will do some more testing to try and better pinpoint the issue. Odd that the web client on Windows 10 appears to work perfectly though.

I have resolved the problem. After much power cycling, uninstalling, installing & configuring it seems that the issue was with the VBox TV gateway. I reset it and configured it again and all seems to work. I think the problem arose when I changed the Plex recording library locations, somehow the VBox was affected by this making recordings impossible. I have subsequently made quite a number of recordings and they have all worked. :slightly_smiling_face:
