I’ve been recording thunderbird here in the uk. I’ve discovered that Plex is saving them correctly. It appears to think that season 2E14 and S03E17 are the same epsiode and thus are ocipes of each other and thus are should be linked together. Taken as multi files from S02E14… (get Info)

Any suggestions on why the system thinks these files are all the same?
Why do you feel that they are stored together? Season 2 and Season 3 are in separate folders.
Season 2\Thunderbirds Are Go!
Season 03\Thunderbirds Are Go
It’s quite simple. On the Plex client, I get Multi File Tag, and when I do info for the same show, I get 1 epsiode with 2 different files, 1 from season2 and 1 from season3 , the picture is the FileInfo dialog to show it’s using two different files for the same show.
Can you provide screenshots showing show, season, episodes as shown in the Plex client?
The only thing I see from what was provided is Season 2 appears to be a downloaded file with filename and different naming convention, Plex recorded file has Season 03, Season 2 file only has a single digit for season number but that shouldn’t matter since they are separate folders. Also see the filename for Season 2 episode is missing (2015) in the filename but that also should not matter. Last thing is it appears you do have 2 copies of the one season 3 episode, perhaps one recording that was a partial recording and was recorded again.
Can you also post screenshots of the actual directories “D:\Media\Kids_TV\Thunderbirds Are Go (2015)” for the show that shows the season folders, and screenshot of each season folder showing the files in the folder.
My two episodes should be in separate videos/episodes in the client, They are not, That was the screenshot to prove it above. (the get info from above) but No you’re now splitting hairs over the source type, The fact I have two completely successful recording on the same episode (sorry I won’t ever record a backup copy again in case something goes wrong(why should I do that, clearly I’m an idiot)) and the missing ‘0’ from the season Name, Don’t worry I’ll work out what wrong and fix it myself. Sorry to reporting a problem.
why so sensitive, hes asking questions to help, not dismissing your issues. Thats why he asked for screen shots, hes trying to understand your issue. It sounds to me like we are talking about 2 different things, your initial message sounded as if you were saying it was storing them together which it is clearly not. I believe what I understand you to be saying is that the server sees them as the same episode and then shows them together as 2 versions of the same show. in short its a matching issue not a storing issue. Are they both listed as season 2 episode 3 or season 3 episode 17. By the way according to your screen shot you do have duplicates of season 3 episode 17 so I would expect multi tag with the 2 versions you have. I’m not sure why it has mis-identified season 2 episode 3 - Thats why screen shots would be useful. as John pointed out the naming for season 2 episode 3 should be fine but I would try a few changes to see if it fixes itself. add the 0 in front of the 2, get rid of the exclamations, add the show year in parenthesis after the show name and maybe get rid of the part that says you download it from the web. “WEBDL-1080p”. Something like below, Then rescan and see what happens
\Media\Kids_TV\Thunderbirds Are Go (2015)\Season 02\Thunderbirds Are Go (2015)- S02E14 - Volcano.mkv
for Season 3 episode 17, get rid of one of the duplicates. I would delete the one that ends with (Copy 1) .ts
I was attempting to assist in trying to determine why Plex was displaying the files as the same episode. As I stated in the previous post the missing year and single digit season folder name on the one Season 02 episode should not matter. The two copies of the same episode I would expect to display the multi file indicator for Season 03 Episode 17 not for the other season/episode. I am not sure why trying to see what you are seeing on your end was take in the wrong manner, will chalk it up to you having a bad day. All I am trying to see is how it looks on your system since I am unable to duplicate on my end. I have tried to recreate this again today and can not get Plex to show the multi file indicator with all three episodes combined. I do get the 2 copies of the season 3 episode showing with multi file indicator as would be expected:
As you can see I can’t replicate what you are seeing. The only suggestion I can provide would be to remove the season 2 file from your library by moving the season folder outside of the folder you have setup for the library. Do the Plex dance: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/908454/#Comment_908454. Then as mentioned on the link verify naming convention of episode, change the name of the season 2 folder to “Season 02” to match the naming of the Season 03 folder, and move the season folder back into your library/show folder and update the library.
