  1. Is there any way to set PLEX server when using HDHomeRun or VBOX to record every day between certain hours and not to use the guide?

  2. If I use the guide and record for example daily news on a channel , how can I set recording to be done everyday , not going the the guide everyday to click record

  3. if no2 can be done, do Plex save same Show (daily news for example) with different name for each day ?

  1. There is currently no way in Plex to set a recording based on a time and/or date. This is a commonly requested feature, but I’ve never seen Plex comment on adding this.

  2. When creating a new recording in Plex there is a dropdown to record only “This Episode” or “All Episodes”. If you select “All Episodes” then there is another option to allow you to record “New Airings Only” or “New and Repeat Airings”. The ability of Plex to record new only is reliant on the quality of your EPG data. In advanced settings you can also select to limit recording to a specific channel and/or a specific time.

  3. Plex saves the episode with a file name based on a season number and episode number. Again, this is dependent on the quality of your EPG data. For local new where there is a date on the EPG data instead of a season and episode number, it uses the date in the file name (e.g. “Local 4 News at 6PM Weekend (2022) - 2022-04-08 20 00 00 - Local 4 News at 6PM Weekend.ts”)

FYI, I have experience with HDHR, but not VBOX. Perhaps someone with VBOX specific knowledge will chip in.

What about using HDHR to do recurrent recording that does not care about the guide ? is there any way to configure directly the HDHR to do recurrent recoding and save the file (with date and time) on a network location (in my case on a synology NAS where Plex index the files in the library). I have plex server installed on a synology NAS

This is getting outside of Plex and more appropriate for the HDHR boards, but if you have one of the HDHR devices that has a DVR such as the scribe then it can record independently. There are also APIs for the HDHR devices that would let you develop your own scripts/processes to tune a channel and capture the results.
