Redirecting trailers.apple.com in my router

As a test, I set my ATV network setting back to default. In my router I redirected trailers.apple.com to my PlexConnect machine. It worked really well. In fact, it connects so fast you don't see the little spinning gear that I get when my DNS is redirected on the ATV to my Plex server.

Other than not being able to connect to trailers from any device behind my router is there an issue with this? I actually have two DNS servers (my router and my Windows server) where I could split where they go and use one just for my ATVs.

I'm really impressed how fast it is.

No reason it should be a problem other than as you describe.

Out of interest how have you done this? Using DD-WRT?

I use PFSense and it is pretty straight forward under DNS Forwarder. Enter the DNS name and the IP address of the PC running plexconnect. I’m sure you can do it in other routers, maybe not with stock firmware however.

My only comment would be that you wont have Updates Blocked, which is not a major issue, but it does mean if an update did stop the plexconnect hack of trailers someone could install it on your ATV without thinking does it effect plexconnect, however this is only a matter of redirecting the update sites as well in your router.

I want to correct something I said earlier. The load time with my own DNS server is not faster. Not sure why it loaded so fast but I can't say redirecting my DNS server is any faster than the standard way of setting up PlexConnect. Also, I'm not disappointed at the load speed.
