Reduced Quality or No Ability to Connect When VPN Off

Server Version#: 1.25.9.5721-965587f64
Player Version#: 4.76.1
Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I notice that if I turn the VPN off on my computer where my content is hosted, I can’t connect to my LG webOS tv to my server. Or, if I can’t the quality of picture is degraded.

I’m pretty sure that when this happens, I confirm that remote access is available and that I have streaming quality set to “original” (or whatever it is). When I turn the VPN back on and close and restart my server and my webOS player, it connects fine and the picture is crystal clear HD. It doesn’t seem to matter if the server and the TV are on the same network or not, or if the network is 2.4 or 5Ghz.

The VPN (Private Internet Access, currently 3.3.1 but I always keep it updated) is run on my Mac (10.15.7). My TV is a LG OLED77C9PUB with webOS version 05.25.30.

Happy to elaborate, provide logs, or otherwise clarify but any help or suggestions would be great!

I have no issue with PIA VPN but there are some caveats.

Split Tunneling does not work with Monterey.

Kill switch - Advanced

I would also (reserve make Static) your LAN IP addresses for server, LG TV and any other clients on your LAN.
Add your Server IP and port to LG client settings/ Manual Server

Add your Router address/24 to Server Network settings.

Thanks. I’ll take a look and adjust any settings. It’s just weird to me that the quality of the video degrades when the VPN is off.

I would say, connection was not available so it was connected via a proxy relay
