Reinstall from scratch DSM7

Server Version#: DSM7
Player Version#: Newest Beta Version

Can someone help me to find this problem? I wasn’t able to manage my server after DSM7. So I decided to delete the server and start from scratch. Not so easy if you ask me. I have deleted all the files of Plex and I have delete the shared folder with the Plex username. After this I restarted my DS218+ Synology NAS and tried to install Plex overnew. Now I have the “No Soup” problem. I also get this error all the time.

Can someone help me or guide me to delete all the old files or to just detach my old server and to create a new one? I have enabled SSH on the server and there aren’t any of Plex left on the server. I tried to search with the following commands.

grep -r 'plex' -l
grep -r 'Plex' -l
grep -r 'PLEX' -l

I also used some commands that I have found on this forum, but these things doesn’t seem to help. Can someone help me to delete everything of Plex on my server and to start from scratch. I’m looking for four hours now and I can’t find anything.

If you use the DSM 7 packaging tools I provide, management isn’t difficult.

Perhaps it would be most helpful to

  1. Read what’s changed
  2. Look at the new menu system and tools I’ve provided with the installer GUI for managing this type issue. (next post in this same thread )

If you installed PMS through Package Center, you will want to install our updated version. Synology has not updated from us in some time.

I did read all of this but nothing is solving my problem. I still can’t delete my old server or just make sure that I can install a new Media server for some reason. I have tried to install true package center and by downloading your software.

Did you also go to https://app.plex.tv → Authorized Devices → Server (dropdown) and delete the plex.tv entry ?

Even after uninstalling, Plex.tv will retain the info about the server.

I am working to see if I can effect deletion of it when you actually destroy an installation.

This is what I get to see. Nothing more. I have already deleted it here but it seems to be back again.

Go to DSM package center.

  1. Uninstall my package
  2. ERASE the server data as you uninstall.
  3. This will remove the installed PMS and the server ID
  4. Now go back to Plex.tv and remove it again.
  5. It will not return until you install again.

I have already taken all these steps. Now I want to reinstall Plex and start from scratch. But my Synology/Plex won’t let me. Once I have completed the new installation of Plex it just gives me the “No Soup” page and it won’t let me reconfigure the server.

So how can I fix this? On some way it’s like Plex is still thinking that there is some server on my end.

I also find these files on my server after deleting Plex.

So it looks like not every file or every thing of Plex is deleted on my server at this moment. There is something, or some reason, why Plex keeps reconnecting to the old server why this server is already gone. Any ideas?

I already did this step and this also doesn’t work. I couldn’t reclaim my existing server. So I have deleted everything and I now want to install and reconfigure the whole server. Just start from scratch with Plex. Plex won’t let me do it.

Once I have installed Plex again, I can open the application and he gives me the “no soup” or the sign that this server isn’t from Plex and that it is running on my Nas server. I don’t want this. I want to open it and reconfigure everything. That’s all I am asking for and this doesn’t seem to work.

I have also tried your way and this doesn’t help.

Thanks for the help! I have followed your instruction on the page down below and I have deleted the port forward Plex automatically installed for me. This did the trick. I can now reinstall the server!

  1. If you have been using partial DSM 7 - without migration (or have a failed migration with all data still in the Plex shared folder) – Uninstall & ERASE DSM 7. Install the package again Fresh.

Could you tell me how to do this, I have the data in the Plex folder safely and I must have mucked something up during the install so I think the best thing is to start again.

@bobcrocky

If you have the DSM 7 package installed – ( Look for the -7000 package ID in Package Center attached to the Plex version )

Then normal Uninstall the package and select the red ERASE option. It is very clear.

Plex is not installed now as I have uninstalled the failed install, it picked up the group headings but there was no content. So as noted above it said I should uninstall DSM7 and Erase then start DSM7 from scratch.

How do I remove the DSM7 and erase it?

@bobcrocky

If there is no content, did you remember to give the PlexMediaServer service name access to the media ?

Does this look familiar ?

Yes, did all of that and only got the headings without the content, I think what has thown me was the caution that says reinstall DSM 7. I am doing another install of Plex with the erase option selected. Then I will give it another go… Thanks for your time…

@bobcrocky

I think you’ve ended up in the wrong thread.

Let me ask one question which will decide everything –

Do you have a Plex share and in that Plex shared folder do you have “Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server” with a whole bunch of sub folders under “Plex Media Server” ?

Hi Chuck,

I am in the correct message, I have the old data currently populating my new Plex on DSM7 after reinstalling Plex. I have been pulling my hair for a while trying the figure out the uninstall of DSM etc, I think I have it fairly right at this time, it will be working for couple of hours now getting all of my data across.

@bobcrocky

As long as you:

  1. Know DSM can’t be reinstalled without being disruptive

  2. Have Plex installed on DSM 7 – AND – the data is populating,

then all is good.

In the future please be very careful with terminology.

  1. The OS (DSM) can only be upgraded when Synology sends updates.
  2. We have some liberties with the Plex app on DSM 7.

How you write about what is happening is extremely important.
