I had to reinstall windows 10 on my system. My data drive is at the same location.
Two Issues: #1 After logging in, I now have two servers listed (same name, one is unavailable). How did this happen, and how to I remove it? #2 I used the restore database backup method as described in The plex articles. Seems that all of my titles and collections have been restored, but there isn’t any Meta Data showing. All is blank. I have run update libraries and refresh meta data, nothing is happening. If I click play on a title it does work. Plex Media Server Databases_2020-05-09_06-40-31.zip (10.8 MB) Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-09_06-40-24.zip (1.2 MB)
Revised - Figured out how to delete the relic server in the settings, however still not getting any meta data.
I have the same duplicate server issue. I’ve seen from others that we should remove the server from the authorized device list. But I only have the one Windows device showing(which shows as offline at that) I’m concerned that if I removed it, it may not reappear. I’m anonyed by the duplicated server name and the failure of peer connects to be able to connect securely but at least it works…if we remove the only server we see and they don’t come back we’re worse off than we started. I’d just really like to know from some gurus out there that this is the correct information.
I have basically, the same issue with a duplicate server on a windows 10 reinstall. Restored my db and registry following the reinstall, but foolishly open plex before I restored the registry. I think that lead to the duplicates being created. I also have only one server showing in the authorized server list. Do I delete it? Do I have to rename the server? Hoping there’s someone who’s been here and can speak from experience…thanks to anyone willing to help; cheers
Prior to my reinstall I saved a copied of the db as described. I didn’t read anything about a registry play. I think it has to do with something else. Anyway, I deleted the old one from the account drop down. No issues since, all of my devices are working fine. I am just dealing with the fact that I have zero meta data!!!
About to purge the db, and just start from scratch again!!!
After I reinstalled Windows 10 and restored my db and meta data from %AppData%\Local\Plex Media Server – but my settings weren’t there. I read then that I should have backed up HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc. – So I grabbed the old NTUSER.dat mounted in the registry backup/restore and it was almost like it didn’t happen. But now it acts like I have 2 of the same named servers one that works and one that doesn’t. Unlike your situation, I only have the one server showing up under authorized servers. I’m still to chicken to delete it. I don’t know if removing it is a super easy fix, or a stupid and catastrophic mistake. I’m sorry I’m not more help with your meta data issue.
All good, thanks for your reply. Interesting info. What is so strange to me, the 1st time I installed all went so smooth, now that I am redoing, nothing but problems, now I have foreign posters (have read the many threads on it, easy enough to fix) just time consuming.
I am doing a test. I purged the restored db, ran a fresh run for the meta-data. Going to go back and try again with the backed up db. If it doesn’t work, will place back in this fresh one. Will have to spend a few hours tweaking 800 movies, but heck, done it before, can do it again
Was able to fix meta-data with just simply selecting all of the titles and refreshing metadata. Almost so simple that I feel stupid now for posting this in the 1st place. lol
I needed to update the NTFS permissions on my plex db SSD–the SID changed following a new OS install and caused issues with the symbolic links plex like to use.
