Release Dates not updating with meta data

I recently started a new library and Plex has been stubborn about correctly fetching the release dates. It seems to get the rest of meta data ok, but in order to get the release dates correct, i have to unmatch / rematch several times and typically am having to specify getting data from TMDB. any idea whats up? been this way since latest update (or 2).
