Remote access acting flaky... how I fixed mine

I seem to have solved remote access issues on my server. Maybe this will help others.

As a last resort, I unplugged my dsl gateway for 24 hrs to force the IP to change. Remote access seems to be working normally again and even the indicator on the remote access options page is now behaving. I guess this will be the first thing I try the next time remote access starts acting flaky.

I’m going to cancel Plex and uninstall. I do a Plex repair to try to fix the scanner not working issue and now I have the same remote access issues again! I don’t need these headaches.

If it worked for about one day and then ceased to work, I think it has to do with how your router is handling automatic port forwardings.
These get disabled by your router after some time (typically 24 hours).
You can easily test this by stopping Plex server, wait a few seconds then start it up again. Immediately after the start, Plex server will ask your router for a port forwarding.

The way to avoid this automatic destruction of the port forwarding is to use a manually defined port forwarding instead: Troubleshooting Remote Access | Plex Support
