No remote access despite server state remote access is ok

Server Version#:1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: any player out side the LAN/wifi

So when i try to access my plex out side my network i get that the server is not available.

When going to settings on the server remote access is green saing server is fully acceseble outside the network.

Version 1.24.5.5173

I am seeing the same thing on my windows based server. It has worked fine for years and then one day it just started acting up.

Fully accessible outside your network
You can access this server from signed-in Plex apps or in a browser at https://plex.tv/web.

So what I found was…

  • When using the default port 32400 the remote access status would come and go. But never work.

  • Switching to a custom port and punching a whole in the firewall fixes the remote access status from coming and going.

  • https://plex.tv/web link does not work any more. it will always return “no content available” but if I use the external IP and custom port (Public 73.xxx.xxx.xxx : 11xxx ) then I can access Plex.

  • Also trying to access the server inside my network via the servers IP http://192.xxx.x.xxx:32400/ no longer works.

If you can access from outside but not from inside,.

  1. Firewall.
  2. Default adapter (preferred network adapter in Plex settings too)

Which “link” ?

But somtimes i’m working with the app… So outside my LAN its not working.

And it is working from the lan

Its not working from outside the LAN

Please do the following:

  1. Verify DEBUG logging enabled, VERBOSE is disabled (Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced). SAVE if you make changes.

  2. Restart Plex

  3. Wait 2 minutes for the server to start and setup Remote Access (the reachability test)

  4. Download the logs ZIP file

  5. Attach it here please for me to review.

this is my plex server acount with plexpass
and these are the logsPlex Media Server Logs_2021-11-20_21-31-34.zip (2.7 MB)

You forgot to turn VERBOSE logging OFF then hit SAVE (at the bottom of the page)

There is no path from Plex.tv → the server. The test (inbound) from Plex.tv → your external port (as listed in Remote Acccess) → port 32400 is not passing traffic.

VPN ?
Firewall ?
Correct external port specified if manual ? (or are you using UPnP/NAT-PMP ?)

You can see the test going out but no reply ever received.

My firewall supposed to have the proper port open, i did had maintenance over it a few weeks ago. I’ll try to check it over.

Something else to check.

is 192.168.1.37 the first & default ethernet adapter on the host?

PMS will get confused if not – completely independent of ‘preferred adapter’

Ok!! So, what happend was that my maintenence team (the service company) accidently deleted my firewall static ip address and open port forwarding…
Thanx!!

Yes i have only one network adapter on that box.
And i gave it back a stattic lan ip.
Thanx again

I’m having a similar problem. Everything was fine up until a couple days ago. Internet service at my house was disrupted while the ISP worked on the lines and after it was back on, my remote access will not connect. I have no access to my server if I’m not at my house, and whoever I share it with also has no access. It says that I am offline. I also tried manual. It connects for 3-5 seconds then disconnects. I have 0 technical skills so if anyone responds, please be patient if I do not understand what is being asked of me.

I also turned off my ad blocker, and my VPN is NOT on.

This link… “-https://plex.tv/web-” that redirects to “https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/” the text editor in this forum changes it to Plex.

@Darnellquiggley

For as weird and cliche` as this sounds… Do a full shutdown and then restart in sequence.

  1. With everything off
  2. power up the modem/router and let it come up to ready
  3. power up any switches and WiFi next… let them come up to ready
  4. Now start the server – again let it come up and get settled
  5. Lastly – power on the devices .

What this does is clear all the caching which is sitting in there.

The modem comes up clean and then the entire “world” inside your home starts up fresh based on the modem’s config.

I don’t think you are understanding the issue. But for what it is worth one of the last storms took out the power and then Comcast was out for a day after the power came back. (Their batteries only lasted about 8 hours). So everything has been power cycled a few time in the manner you described.

So lets try this again.

  1. The redirect link called out in the "remote access settings does not work.

It can’t see the server even though it is accessible

Using the public address and custom external port works 73.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx/web/index.html#!/
Also after the last server update the local IP address and standard port now work again for local access. 192.xxx.xxx.xxx:32400/web/index.html#!/

  1. The default method of remote access is also broken, a manual port must be set and forwarded through the router. Before all you had to do was enable remote access no port forwarding required. Not sure what magic was used there but it no longer works.

Folks.

My apologies for the delay – I have been that busy.
I do what I can as quickly as I can. (Synology, Linux, Docs, and Development)

If you ask nicely (ping me directly), I won’t ban you
(except on the second Tuesday of the week  )

Looking at this image

It looks like the server itself is not available. Can you confirm ( Settings - Authorized Devices - Server ) the server hasn’t been duplicated and the browser’s not looking for the wrong instance ? ( It’s a pain but it does happen and is easily cleared )

Regarding -

Setting a manual port -vs- using UPnP.

Some modem/routers have CRAP UPnP services in them.

Which modem/router model are you using here?

  • can you sign into it?
  • can you look at the port forwarding / UPnP Reservations table ?
  • is there only ONE router between the Plex server and the internet ?

I totally understand, I am just now getting back in here to see if anyone replied.
I can confirm there are no duplicates .

One router.
Netgear RAX80, and it used to work. Nothing has changed except Plex sever versions.
As stated it only works now if I use the port forwarding.
Yes I can log into it.
