Hello I recently re-installed plex on my server. Prior to re-installed it, plex was running perfectly fine and I was able to connect through Remote Access. Due to unseen circumstances, all my data was wiped hence the reason I am re-installing Plex.
I am able to access Plex through a specifik URL created when installing plex, but it won’t let me access plex If i visit the website through plex.tv/web. I get the message “(Server) is currently unavailable”
I hope someone can assist me, I have been researching to finding a solution but I am stuck.
Screenshot provides proof that the remote Access is enabled
you actually might want to remove your public IP address from that post to avoid others from taking advantage of it…
Have you setup a port forward in your router configuration to send requests addressed to port 29368 to your Plex Media Server?
If so… is your public IP accessible through that port from outside your home network? You can check this e.g. using a service such as canyouseeme.org
There’s 2 ways, Plex can attempt to make the server available outside your home network.
The first scenario is using a technology called UPnP. If supported and enabled in your router, this basically lets applications (like Plex) request that certain communication will be directed to that application/server.
Not all routers support UPnP and not all users like not to be in full control of what applications/servers open themselves up for communication/requests from outside your home network. For those scenarios, you can establish a dedicated exception in your router where you tell it that all requests to a certain port should be given to a certain server in your home network (that’s what’s called a port forward).
Considering it used to work before without further configuration…
Let’s try to uncheck the Specificer manuelt offentlig port setting and try to re-connect. This might require to disable and re-enable remote access inside Plex. But if remote access had been working for you before, this should actually do the job. Specificer manuelt offentlig port is only required if you have manually defined a port forward on your router.
I have UPnP enabled and I unchecked the specific port and re-enabled remote access. Sadly it did not work for me. This is really odd. But thanks for all the assistance
in that case contact your ISP and ask them if they block that particular port (e.g. for “security” reasons – or because they didn’t like the extra traffic). Some are willing to make an exception if you ask them about it.
If you had UpnP enabled and couldn’t get through, you’ll have the same result with a manual port forward. It’s just 2 different ways to achieve the same.
