My Remote Access refuses to connect

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 8.10.0.21911

I can access locally but friends on my servers say they cannot connect on various devices ie Xbox One, Amazon Firestick, Samsung Smart TV, Google Chromecast.

Have tried rebooting Plex Media Server and friends have all deleted and redownloaded app as well logging out and in and resetting modems. I keep getting this error on my remote access page: “Not available outside your network
Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network”

Any suggestions are so appreciated. I’ve attached logs and errors include :
" MyPlex: reachability check - current mapping state: ‘Mapped - Not Published’.
MyPlex: mapping state set to 'Mapped - Not Published (Not Reachable)"

Based on the logs, it appears that Plex Media Server is attempting to find your router using UPnP to create an automatic port forward and is unable to. It then tries to test connectivity to your public IP using an invalid port (0) since it was unable to map one.

Have you set up a manual port forward configuration on your router? If not, you’ll need to do so. Then, in Plex, set Settings -> Remote Access -> “Manually specify public port” to the public port you configured on the router.

Alternatively, your router may have a configuration option to enable UPnP. If so, you could try enabling that to see if PMS can create an automatic port forward rule.

If this doesn’t help, please provide some additional information about your configuration, both in Plex’s remote access settings and your router’s port forwarding rules. Also include information about your network setup:

  • What is your private IP address range?
  • Do you have more than one router on your network (ISP-provided plus your own)?
  • Is your server connected to your network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi?
  • Anything else you can think of which might be interesting about your network?

Hi thanks so much for your reply. I do have a manual port set/static IP forwarding to port 47895 on the PC hosting my media server configured on my modem. My modem also has UPnP enabled.

  • 192.168
-I don’t have a router, just my ISP provided modem
    -Ethernet
-Nothing of note. We have a wifi extender but I don’t think that has any bearing on the Plex server

Anything else specific you need to know?

Did you tell Plex Media Server to use port 47895 by setting “Manually specify public port” in your remote access settings? What does canyouseeme.org show for port 47895? Also, check the port forward configuration in your router and ensure it is configured for TCP (UDP is not needed).

Yes I checked off 47895 and had it search and it can’t find it. Also canyouseeme can’t find the port but I’m sure it’s set up correctly.

If canyouseeme doesn’t “see your service” on that port the connection is not being forwarded to your server. Can you post a screenshot of your port forwarding configuration? Also, your logs show two different public IP addresses, one starting with 99.252 and one starting with 172.105. Is one of those yours (don’t post the full IP here)? The one on 99.252 has a Plex Media Server responding on public port 32400 (but not 47895). The one on 172.105 has no server responding on either port.

First off, I really appreciate you taking the time out to help me so thanks for that.

Ok so I’ve attached a new set of logs (more recent) and attached my port forwarding config. I don’t have a 172 ip so I don’t know what that’s referring to. Maybe one of my remote users?

No problem, happy to help.

The screenshot helps and shows what might be the problem(s). These parameters should be changed (leave the others as they are):

  • Private port range should be 32400 - 32400; Plex always listens on 32400 internally.
  • Remote IP Address should be set to Any; this controls the remote IPs which are allowed to connect to your server. As it is now, there’s a good chance connection attempts from Plex’s servers will be rejected.
  • Remote IP Range should be blank.

Leave your Plex remote access configuration as it is. After making the changes above, if it doesn’t show fully available you may need to disable/enable remote access to force it to retry. If that doesn’t work test with canyouseeme.org again to see if it shows the port as open.

Made the changes and checked with canyouseeme.org but still not showing as open. I attached the Plex remote access screen too. Not sure what I’m doing wrong… Do you think it has something to do with the 172 IP? It came up again in the logs but when I run ipconfig/all in cmd it doesn’t come up as an IP I’m using.
