I have a windws 2012 server with Plex server installed. It is inside my home ethernet network… This server is connected via a gig connection into a FIOS router. The windows 2012 plex server does not have the firewall enabled and does not have any port monitoring/blocking software. I verified that. I do not have a static ip address for my home but it very rarely changes if ever. I gave remote access to a friend but can also verify on my side that the remote connection consistently goes up and down. Initially I thought it was because my ip address from FIOS was changing but it is still the same. I have tried opening port 32400 but it didn’t seem to help. Is there a timeout when my plex server connects with http://plex.tv (or wherever it talks to) ? Is there anything I can tweak if there is a timeout? When my friend tries to connect, he may have to try 3 or 4 times but it eventually starts working. Again, I can see this on my side also when looking at the status of the remote connection from within the server GUI so I know it isn’t just his connection. I have also verified the same thing from my phone when it is not connected into my home network via wifi. The windows 2012 plex server is up almost 24/7 except for routine maintenance. I am just not sure where else to look as I am 99% sure it is nothing to with my my network since I have tried all of the options I have found (ie port forwarding etc). Is there a parameter in an XML file or similar that configs how often my server checks in with plex.tv?
Any ideas are welcome at this point.
