Remote Access Issues on Plex Server After Synology DSM 7 Update: Seeking Solutions

I recently updated my Synology to DSM 7 and have encountered several issues with the “Remote Access” feature in my server settings. Oddly, the status of “Remote Access” fluctuates unpredictably between “Not available outside your network” and “Fully accessible outside your network.” Despite updating to the latest version of Plex, this problem persists.

I followed the troubleshooting guide and tried adding port forwarding to my modem, but it didn’t resolve the issue. Interestingly, this erratic behavior doesn’t seem to affect remote access for other users. I confirmed this by successfully accessing the server from an external network. However, disabling the remote access completely blocks all access to my Plex content from outside the network, affecting both me and those with shared library access.

I suspected firewall settings in the Synology system could be the cause, so I disabled them, but that also did not remedy the situation.

Here are the specifics of my current setup:

  • Synology Version: DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 6
  • Model Number: DS718+
  • Plex Version: 1.32.8.7639

Any advice or assistance to resolve these remote access issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Same issue here.

Sorry, my issue seems to be this nasty storm we are getting in the south east US. Must have knocked out some nodes somewhere. All back up for me now.

No problem! I hope you stay safe.
