Plex Media Server Logs_2026-07-21_18-52-38.zip (2.9 MB)

honestly i do not not what i am doing, i’ve had issues with remote on and off for many years and now it just doesn’t want to work.

what i’ve tried

logged out then back had a certification issues so i reset all authorized devices and changed password and it fixed the certification that kept popping up everytime i loaded into plex web/refreshed.

enabled Manually specify public port that was worse then not having it checked.

it works then quickly not working and sometimes pops back up most of the time it doesn’t.

i really don’t understand..my ISP spectrum the router settings from when i can see are fine, firewall is not blocking plex. also sometimes plex server app disappears during the night/morning have to relaunch it..wanna say after this last update.

You must only enable this check box, if you have created a port forwarding rule in your router’s settings.
The same external/WAN port number you have used in that forwarding rule, must be put into the input field that appears after this check box in Plex. The Basics of Remote Access Troubleshooting

ok thanks, yeah i didnt make any settings in router, so i’ll see how it does without it checked.

Without a manual port forwarding, the automatically established port forwarding is often removed after a few hours by the router.

so i think i need to just figure out the port forwarding w/ router, my family members keep telling me there shows start buffering/they cant resume due to the randomness of remote access, how exactly do i set it if anyone cant assist me, that’ll be great.

Assume you have already been here

Manual Port Forwarding

What router and what ISP ?

Spectrum and their router they provided me model SAX2V1S,if thats what you were asking for. I’ve looked at that but maybe i just don’t understand or its more my ISPs devices

Not sure which account you’re using since you responded with another, but will reply to your original one.

Can give some basic advice to get you started, but will likely need to see screenshots if you run into issues.

Start on the plex remote access page, select manually specify port, and leave it with 32400, hit apply. Also, note down the private ip on this page. That is your server ip address.

Next go to the plex network settings, and uncheck “enable relay”. You don’t want to have that enabled, you want people to connect directly.

Now you’ll need to create the ip reservation and port forward for plex. I assume you have the My Spectrum app? It looks like it can’t be done directly on the router. Follow these steps: https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/advanced-wifi-advanced-settings

First you will reserve the ip of your server (noted earlier) so it never changes. Then you’ll create the port forwarding rule. Your internal and external port is 32400. You want TCP only.

While you’re in the app, follow the instructions to disable UPnP, also noted on the page linked above.

That creates your rule. Now test your port forwarding via this link. Enter 32400 as the port and test, hopefully it says success: https://canyouseeme.org/

If that worked, you should test a remote connection now. Take your mobile off WiFi and try to connect via the app.

Also, if your spectrum app has an advanced security feature, you should disable it. It can interfere with port forwarding.

yeah sorry mobile & pc has two different logins, ok i will try it out in the morning thank you very much.
