Remote access not working

I am unable to access Plex remotely. This has only become an issue since I switched to AT&T gateway router. Plex is working locally still so I’m guessing it’s a router issue. I’m not savvy enough to figure this out so any help would be most appreciated. I currently have Plex set to manual port 32400. It connects for a bit turning green but then disconnects. Thank you for any help!

This will only work in conjunction with a manually defined “port forwarding” in your router’s settings.

Yes I believe so. I’m not sure what meeting to change however.

Your router should come with documentation. Maybe on the website of your ISP.

I went to the website and added Plex to NAT/Gaming as a hosted application. Is that what I should do? Service: Plex Port: TCP 32400. Device: My Mac mini.

Yes, that sounds correct.

After you did this, wait a few minutes. Then go back to Plex web and click on Retry under settings - server - remote access
Then just let it sit. Maybe even stop and restart Plex server after a while.
If it doesn’t go green immediately, just let it sit some more (while Plex server keeps running).

Okay it is green but I feel like I’ve tried this before and at some point today it will go red again. Any way to stop that from happening?

The switch to the manually defined portforwarding should have done that already.

If I close out the browser Plex is running on will that disable it?

No, the Plex server is not running in the web browser. It is a separate app which should only show itself somewhere in the task list on your computer.
Unfortunately, I haven’t touched a Mac in 25 years, so I don’t know where to direct you to.

The web browser can be closed. It is not needed if you want to access your server with a different app or device.

So I closed out the browser, but left Plex running, went back in and now it’s disabled again.

What exactly is disabled?

Can you go back to your ISP’s website and verify that the port forwarding is still activated?

Yes it still activated. It was working fine so long as I have the Plex window open. Every time I leave and then relaunch it turns off.

Ask a friend to see if they can see your Plex server. I have sometimes found that it shows it’s not working when it actually is.

Or use a different device. Your phone for instance. With a Plex Pass, the mobile app is included.

If the server is running on that computer then it will show the server menu in the menu bar on the top
