Remote Access Lost After Upgrading FIOS Router

Server Version#: 1.43.0.10492
Player Version#: 4.156.0
I just replaced my Verizon FIOS Quantum Gateway router with their current CR1000-A router. Remote Plex access was working fine with the Quantum router, but it’s not working with the new router. I have set up port forwarding and turned off IPV6 and uPNP on the CR1000-A. I am continuing to manually specify use of port 32400 within Plex Server since this is what worked with the old router.
When I first replaced the router I could not get any remote connection. When I reset the static IP address for my Plex server in the router I was able to get remote access working for maybe an hour or two. It has since stopped working. When I disable/enable remote access in Plex, I get an initial connection for maybe 5 seconds and then it drops. I know data is flowing during this brief period because I can stream live TV to my phone (not connected to WIFI) for a few seconds. I’ve tried disabling Windows Defender on my Plex server but that has not made a difference. What else can I try to resolve this issue? Thanks!

IIRC, FiOS has network security settings that can interfere with Plex remote access. You may need to disable them in your FiOS account and/or router settings.

Run through the steps in this document: The Basics of Remote Access Troubleshooting

Ensure the Plex Server network interface is Private, not Public (Windows Settings → Network & Internet → Properties).

Verify the Plex server IP address & default gateway are correct and match the port forward statement in the router.

Configure the Plex server to use a public DNS server such as 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8 (Google), or 9.9.9.9 (Quad9).

If you change any network settings on either the router or the Plex server, then reboot the router and when it is back online, reboot the server.

Plex remote access is never working. Plex “optimistically” shows remote access as working while it is trying to initialize things. When that fails, it returns to “not available…”

You phone may be connecting via Plex Relay, a backup system used when remote access is not available. The stream is tunneled through servers at plex.tv and limited to 2 Mbps. Plex Relay is enabled/disabled in Settings → Network.

Thanks for your advice! The server was not set to private, and I forgot about setting to a public DNS. But ultimately, it appears my issue was rooted in NordVPN. Once I set up a split tunnel in Nord things started working as they should.

It may just be coincidence, but connecting to Live TV channels in the Plex iPhone app is now a bit flaky. Some channels connect within a reasonable time, but others do not. And a channel that I first connected to sometimes fails to come back up if I change channels away and then go right back to the prior working channel. Are there any other settings that might help with this? Thanks again for your advice!

Glad you’re up and running.
