Remote access not allowed

I have done everything that I have read in this forum to help me access my library outside my home. I have turned off firewall, turned my vpn off, went into my router setting. and still I get the same message can’t connect to server from outside but then a few hours later I can access server then a few hours later I get I down have remote access
im so done with this

That does not give any details of exactly what you have setup and configured and what potential issues you have checked for and eliminated

See
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access/

I am giving you a link (as example) to a forum topic of an issue where the user has attempted to supply all the details I would expect to see

I am continuing to receive this error. “Not available outside your network” Regardless if I am home or away. the it will say I have “Fully accessible outside your network”. I checked my router software it is supports the required setting UPnP Enabled. I don’t know what to do. I have looked everywhere on the forums and nothing seems to work

I thought I said what would be needed to investigate

Also it would be better to switch to a manually specified public port and have a port forward in the router to forward to tcp port 32400 - more reliable than uPnP automatic port configuration

I have been using PLEX for a couple years now. Been working fine. However, every now and then I get this issue as well. For NO REASON that I can find, PLEX will not connect outside the local network.

Hate to sound like a total ass, but you don’t need a ton of information to HELP someone figure this out. In my case, as in many that read the forums I would surmise, I am not an idiot. I understand networking better than most as I did network set up and security for many years. And that is all you should need to know… In other words, all restrictions for PLEX to access the internet are gone. No firewall, No port restrictions, nothing. It’s as wide open as a …well, it’s wide open. And again, if you didn’t bother to pay attention to the start of my post: PLEX HAS BEEN WORKING 95% OF THE TIME WITH NO PROBLEMS!!! This is an intermittent issue. And damned if I can figure it out. Sometimes I will click on RETRY 10 times, then it simply works. Other times I will click on it 100 times…and still nothing. Sometimes I restart Plex and it will connect, for 30 seconds then say it can’t connect. (when it is connected I can see it on my phone NOT using local connection.) It still to this day will NEVER work with my VPN even though everything is set up correctly using PLEX page from my VPN as well as info from these forums. Port forwarding IS set up on my vpn server but to no avail. And again, not my first rodeo…been doing networking and security for many years…

When someone says they have totally opened their computer to the internet, there really is NOT much more that needs to be said. Fact is, on an open computer with open router PLEX should connect 100% of the time with no issues. It really isn’t brain surgery… I mean, most of these people posting this same issue say the same thing…all other apps connect just fine. The ONE common issue is PLEX. So maybe don’t keep harping on what they don’t tell you…they are telling you right up front…their computer is OPEN…so why can’t PLEX get out!

If PLEX can’t get the VPN issue fixed as well as these bloody random "can’t connect’ issues fixed I may simply stop paying and just be happy with the free use… It’s really getting old.

Thanks,

and sorry if this sounds like I’m a jerk… I just had to reformat my system drive AGAIN and having to reinstall all my software is a real pain in the butt!!! Plex not working tops off a really crappy day!!!

Problems cannot be investigated from just a description of the issue. Need diagnostics to see what is going wrong.

There is a known timing issue with status indicator for Remote Access which would be compounded if repeated clicks on retry on the remote access server setting page. This timing issue clears itself if with remote access enabled, the screen is left as is for 30 seconds and then a browser refresh through F5 button.

For remote access to work, then the public IP address detected by Plex Media Server needs to be available through the selected public port (when manually specify port used) and a connection test is made to the server. That public port would need to be forwarded to the local IP address detected by Plex Media Server.
