I have been using Plex for years and I love it- but I have never managed to get Remote Access working. I turn it on and within like 30 seconds it changes to Not available outside your network. I have a Verizon g1100 router, I googled and it said to turn on uPNP so I figured out how to access that setting but it’s already enabled, so now I am out of ideas. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
UPnP can produce some mixed results.
Check if you can create a “manual port forward” for your server in the router configuration. This means you’ll specify a custom public port and all requests to that port will be forwarded to the PMS and its internal standard port (32400).
Basic test: after establishing your port forward, verify if you can access your router’s public IP on the specified public port from outside your home network (e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org)
There’s a few steps to troubleshoot if remote access isn’t working. Some ISPs will no longer assign their customers a routable public IP address which can make things pretty nasty.
Hello. I also have the “Not available outside your network” issue, but mine is random. For example, last week I was having the issue so I set a manual public port. This worked great for about three days. I tried again using the same manual port, but that didn’t work. I tried the automatic method, that didn’t work. I entered in a new manual port and that worked for a full day. The next day, I tried a new manual port number, that didn’t work. I tried the automatic method again and it worked for the last two days. Today, I have the problem again. I tried the automatic method, it did not work. I tried a new manual port, that didn’t work. I tried the automatic method again, and now it seems to be working. Ironically, the port it’s currently using is the manual port number that I entered in just before using the auto method. It didn’t work when I used it manually, but it does work in auto mode? What information do you need from me in order to get this to always be “Fully accessible outside your network”? I do a lot of traveling and would really like this to be more reliable. I hope I am explaining this properly. I am a long time Plex user, but not that savvy in tech talk. Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.
