Remote access not available outside my network

Server Version#: 1.40.4.8679-424562606
Player Version#: 1.40.4.8679

Hello everyone, first time poster. Sorry in advance if I’ve done something wrong, literally no idea what I’m doing but I need some help. I set up a Plex server so my mum and her partner can watch some stuff at their place and to allow a friend to do the same at his place. All was working fine until 2 days ago when neither of them could get anything to load randomly. I discovered on my end that it’s saying that remote access is “not available outside your network”…

I’ve searched high and low for a solution to this. I should preface by saying that I’m not the most tech savvy person. I know a thing or two but when it comes to port forwarding and all that jazz, it gets overwhelming. Even with detailed guides, it didn’t seem to work for me as I couldn’t find a tutorial for my specific router (D-Link DSL-4320L).

So I guess I’m wanting to know firstly, why it randomly decided it wasn’t going to work anymore and secondly how to fix it in layman’s terms.

I feel awful because my mum is dying to watch the new season of a show she loves and it’s on Plex but she can’t watch it. It’s like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey haha.

Thanks everyone!

There’s a multitude of things which can go wrong or interfere with a remote access setup. Not all of them are under your control or immediately visible/transparent to you.
Sometimes an ISP changes how they handle your network access or there’s a change with an automatically installed fix for your router.

Solutions might not always available „in layman’s terms“.

To get a better understanding, you might need to share some more details. You could e.g. work through this troubleshooting guide. If that doesn’t help you to fix it, the output/findings of the individual steps should shed some light on what’s going on in your particular setup.

Edit:

While your particular router isn’t listed, you might be able to check/compare if any of the DSL-3xxx or DSL-5xx models have a similar administration and apply the description

Hey thanks for the reply.

I’ve done everything within my realm of understanding. I’ve made sure I have a static IP, I’ve opened the port etc. and it’s still not working. I’m giving up, it’s not worth it honestly. Considering it was working for weeks prior and just decided to randomly stop working is a bit of a load of crap in my opinion. Hopefully one day it’ll just start working again itself.
