Has anybody found a solution with the Remote Access problem? I have been running Plex without any problems for several years and suddenly this summer this started. I and running my server on a MacMini with MacOS 10.13 6 (High Sierra). I have tried everything suggested by the Forum without success. The Remote function stays up , sometimes a few seconds and sometimes longer, but never permanently.
I would really appreciate help with this since I am traveling a lot and constantly want to use my Plex from remote locations. This function has been the best part of Plex for me!!
Additional info on this problem:
When playing with the server today I found out that every time I clicked on General (under the Settings grouping) the Remote Access was disconnected. Any comments on that?
Would you mind sharing what you tested? The forum is a wide space with a mix of good and bad advice…
Mind sharing some more details about your setup – e.g. are you using a manual port forward in your router or UPnP (automatic forwarding)? Can you see/access your router’s public IP address and the specified public port from outside your home network (e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org)?
I suppose your router gets a publicly routable IP address from your ISP?
I am using manual port 32400 (no change from before)
I was using the public IP address provide by my ISP (Cox) when the problems started. Changer that to a VPN provided IP address without any success.
On canyouseeme.org, I can see my VPN provided IP address on port 80, but when I try on port 32400 I can not see it. Reason: Connection refused.
This is when the remote access is working.
I am providing screen shots of the screens with remote access OK and not OK.
Did check with COX (ISP) and they do not have any retrains on streaming and I have gig service from them.
also, why would the remote access functionality stop when I click on General (under the Settings grouping) and then start up (temporarily for seconds or hours) when I restart the remote access function again?
Well… the remote access status indicator has a history of occasionally being off. So I tend to believe canyouseeme.org if you tell us it says you don’t have access from the outside. The public IP / port not being visible implies the issue is between your ISP / router configuration…
