However, trying to access from my telephone with wifi off (so not on the same network) tells me the server is offline or indirect.
If I go to my Mac and try and access the Plex Server, the browser opens a page at localhost:32400 (even if I set a port manually for 32768), but fails to connect. I had set the static IP for the Mac to the address shown in the Remote Access line when the connection isn’t working properly at 192.168.1.39. Interestingly, that’s on a different subnet - all my machines are on 192.168.0.xxx - so I change the IP back to 192.168.0.39. Now I can access Plex on the Mac, but my remote access on the PC is just turning and turning. Reloading the page now shows Remote Access in green, but my phone still shows it as indirect.
Using canyouseeme.org I can’t see either 32400 or the port I opened of 32768 (nor any of the normal ones like http on 80)
Can anyone please help? This all started with the last update I think.
Hi Andy,
The router just won’t allow a user-defined port number below 32768, and calling their tech support I get a response of “you need to speak to technical support for that, it’s not in the measure of what we can help with”.
I realised that Advanced options wasn’t on, stupid me, so turned it on and get
Private 192.168.1.39 : 32400 ← Public 91.160.69.182 : 32769 x Internet
Not sure why the private address is listed as 192.168.1.39 when the fixed Ip for the Mac is 192.168.0.66
I can’t save changes for now since the remote access hasn’t worked.
Okay, been back to the router settings and although I had set a static IP on the Mac, I hadn’t set one up on the router. That is now done and Plex at least now sees:
Private 192.168.0.39 : 32400 Public 91.160.69.182 : 32769 x Internet
on the right subnet, but still not available outside the network.

PS. The router is a POS, it appears friendly but does every everything ■■■■ backwards.
But I don’t think I can change that private number? The incoming one is changed to the right thing 32769. I’ve tried it on and off again so many times I think I’m in an episode of the IT Crowd
It’s the subtitle issue as well, but I’ll do that. As for speaking to the tech support at Free? Not a hope they’ll know. Did the update and it went back to being indirect to start with but seems to have settled down now. The Remote Access thing is still not working when I hit Retry on that page and disabling and enabling it doesn’t do anything. I’ll try again tomo… uh today…
For the subtitles, it wasn’t a problem a couple of weeks ago, hence wanting a previous build. The server isn’t constantly trying to get me to claim, I think it is just because I’m messing with the Remote Access stuff and reloading the page, etc.
In general use I have no problem with my network, it’s only Plex, and recently. It was working fine before.
Here’s a lovely pic of my network (well, the bits that count for this…)
And obviously the phone works when it is in WI-Fi range, but not on mobile data.
Oh and the Drive with FW is where the content is. Right now it’s a single 3TB drive, but when I need more space, I’ll make it a raid. I mainly put content on there through the PC over the network. I have the Mac for work but almost never actually use it (TeamViewer is enough)
And riddle me this. I just turned off UPnP on the router, since the port forwarding I want to do is right, changed the port used in case there was a conflict, and reloaded Plex on the Mac and opened the client on the PC and get this pic:
Hooboy, now things have seriously gone to pot. I can’t reach my own server, or those of people I share with. On the Mac, I try to log in and it goes into a loop of waiting circle and eventually says Plex is not reachable.
■■■■■. I am in the process of backing up all the settings and installing again. See where that gets me. Also, just occasionally my Mac’s name changes on the network (after software updates on the Mac), meaning that I don’t see the shared folder on the PC until I go through the steps again. That happened this evening too. Let’s see where I get to…
Okay, uninstalled Plex and rebooted the Mac. Reinstalled, rechecked through IP settings, found a couple of mismatches (mainly because of the stupid router and the way it works) but I can now get through that open port checker, and it seems like things are coming back to normal. Pain in the ■■■■ that everything is back to being unwatched and I lost all my playlists, but we’ll see if it works for people I share with too. Thanks for your help, and above all, patience Andy, much appreciated.
That sounds very drastic. It’s so strange. Plex was absolutely rock solid two weeks ago. I could play stuff on my phone anywhere, the tablet worked on wi-fi, the Roku never failed. Since then, I had a problem with my router needing refreshing and there was an update to Plex and now everything is bust.

(PS. If you want to have a look, I can do a TeamViewer session with you)
