Remote access not working despite server settings claiming all is OK!

And this is only from 3 days ago, until then everything worked fine, but now on the apps we are not able to remote watch.

Please wait at least 10 minutes.
Then stop and restart Plex server.
Let’s see if this makes any difference.

I tried. Did not worked.
I think the issue is that somehow plex thinks I am trying to access the app, through local network. and because of that it does not allow. However, if I access the app through the web, everything works as it should.

there’s a bug in the android app, where the app somehow tries to connect to localhost, instead of using the providing public url. in our case plex.prio.ro

This is not published as public URL. It only appears as “local” URL.
And if you are trying to use it as public domain name for your server, you need to have a fitting security certificate for this domain. A publicly trusted certificate, that is. i.e. not self-signed

See https://support.plex.tv/articles/200430283-network/
“Custom server access URL”
as well as the 3 items which relate to “custom certificate
”

it’s using cloudflare SSL cert

@OttoKerner I stumbled onto this thread after extensive googling and looking into my network settings, I have the same issue. Could you also reissue a new certificate please? Greatly appreciated!

ERROR - CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429

[mod edit: please stop and restert your Plex server now]

Edit by myself again: thanks for the extremely swift reply! It works again!

I get this:

CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429,

error code=“1003” message=“API rate limit exceeded” status=“429”

Could someone kindly renew my cert? Maybe @OttoKerner can?

Thanks so much!

That worked! Thanks very much for the quick help!

@OttoKerner I get this:

Mar 29, 2026 21:16:34.166 [547395809504] ERROR - CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

And

error code=“1003” message=“API rate limit exceeded” status=“429”

[mod edit: please stop and restart your Plex server now]

Thanks, that worked. I spent forever trying to fix this problem. Error message in client or server could be way more helpful, since it claimed remote access was all good in the server while the client kept saying my server was offline. I was in a rabbit hole fighting my firewall and disabling dns rebinding in pihole.

When I tried app.plex.tv I got the “Unable to connect securely” which was what google needed to get me here. Since the error is in plain sight in the logs (if you know what to look for), it should be easy to bring it into the UI: “Your cert is broken. Click here to fix it.”

Not sure if I have the same issue. I can’t access remotely through the web interface but my ios app works remotely. All my remote users can’t access my server. It keeps saying it fails to setup a secure connection making me think its something to do with the certs.
