I followed the tutorial setting up the portforwarding for port 32400, checking the box for manual port, adding a rule in my firewall - but it still doesnt work. When i retry the remote access it says it works but after a while it goes back to saying it doesnt. Im using PlexAmp on my phone and the reason that im saying it might be working really inconsistently is that my audiobook once got transfered to my phone, so it has to have worked once. The website for checking if a port is open also says that 32400 is open. I dont know what to do , pls help, thank you in advance
There’s also a guide with some more details on how to troubleshoot remote access issues. After confirming the port forward is properly working and configured in the router and Plex (as per MovieFan‘s response)… it might be a good step to confirm if your ISP is assigning a publicly routable IP address to your router (and if that public IP address matches as seen in the Plex Remote Access Settings, your router‘s WAN IP and that seen by your external port checker).
Hi @hannemannh I’ve often seen the Plex GUI indicate remote isn’t working, yet it does actually work. What happens if you try to watch a TV show, does that work reliably.
Audio books are an interesting challenge, as they can often be split into many many smaller files leading to challenges for download/playback.
One final point, if you listen to a few audiobooks, could I suggest you look at the amazing app Prologue (if you are an iPhone/iPad user). Seriously well worth the small price (once off, no subscription).
PS - Does your Plex web gui show this under settings/remote access (I’ve hidden my IP address information on purpose):
I have a similar problem - when I connect, it gives me the above message (fully accessible outside your network), but only for a few seconds, then goes back to inaccessible. I’m using Manual port forwarding and have changed the port a few times with the same result. I am using Surfshark, but have added Plex as a Bypass. Turning my Antivirus and Firewall on and off made no difference.
VPNs are adding a ton of possible breaking points.
The switch from on to off just means it doesn’t work (and Plex takes so many seconds to figure that out).
Have you already verified the given remote port is accessible from outside your home network (e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org — or whatever works similarly with your VPN)?
