Remote Access - Not working

You need to wait a bit after updating remote access settings. It sometimes takes up to half an hour for your devices to get the new remote settings. I just changes my remote settings earlier today and all external clients stopped working for ~30 minutes. However, I still find it strange that your clients are not even attempting to connect to your server using it’s public IP.

Instead of using a phone, try a computer and open the network log in the browser (google “[browser] developer tools” if you don’t know how to use/open them). It will give you more insight into what a remote client is trying to connect to.

Understand…

I also just tried under the mobile app (iOS) to do a manual connection, and received the 1001 error when it did the search based off of the settings I put in. I tried both the public and internal (S&G’s) with the correct associated ports and it would not let me through.

I did not mess with anything overnight, since there was a lot of stuff I as doing with it yesterday. Still no connection outside my network. Sigh…

Check what connections Plex sees as available for your server:
#1
Find a Plex authentication token by following https://support.plex.tv/articles/204059436-finding-an-authentication-token-x-plex-token/

#2
Go to https://plex.tv/api/resources?includeHttps=1&includeRelay=1&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxx

#3
Check the connection items listed.

<Connection protocol=“https” address=“[local-ip-address]” port=“[port]” uri=“https:// [local-ip-address].[server-domain].plex.direct :32400” local=“1”/>

What does that show?

<Connection protocol="http" address="192.168.1.235" port="32400" uri="http://192.168.1.235:32400" local="1"/>

No HTTPS, I had to connect “one time unsecure” or I couldn’t get to any of the info you requested.

This just refers to getting the access token, correct?

Were there no other connections for your server shown on that site?

Edit out content.

Okay. According to those details, Plex is unaware of any way to connect to your server other than it’s local IP address. This is strange, I’ll do some testing and get back you.

P.S.: You should edit your above post and remove the access token from the output. Since they are not required to look at this issue, you can also remove the two non-server devices.

Edit: Found the reason (I think). You have Secure connections set to Disabled. I just did this for my test server and got the same result as you. Try setting it to “Preferred” and see what happens.

Ok, just updated the Secure connection to “Preferred” will check again in a few … Waiting for things to settle down.

If nothing else, you should see a https://[something].plex.direct-domain as your server’s uri in a few minutes (instead of its IP address).

im having all the same issues has rhett7660 and the messed up thing was it was working ealier today for remote access

Did your server disappear from that site?

There was an issue on some back end servers (pubsub servers) that impacted remote access connectivity tests for Plex Media Servers in a number of territories and may lead to the server route disappearing from resources.xml

That was addressed and resolved yesterday at about 8am GMT (14th October)

There is also a known issue affecting servers that are directly connected to the internet (ie WAN IP Address) and for these servers, they get lost if remote access is disabled. There is a way to recover by editing the settings.

If this is not a server with a WAN Local IP Address, would need to know which pubsub server the Plex Media Server is using as these are geographically aligned. We can find out which is used from fresh logs after a restart of Plex Media Server - and can also pick the current value in the server Preferences.xml (for NAS/Linux) or registry for windows - see advanced settings page
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/
The IP address of the current pubsub server can be found in server setting item named PubSubServer

So if there are still problems, please run with debug logging enabled
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

Restart the server
When the problem occurs, go to server settings for remote access

If remote access is enabled. Refresh the page with F5 button
Wait 5 minutes and then capture screenshot and logs and the setting value for PubSubServer so that we can look into that pubsub server - in the event of failing connectivity tests

@sa2000

This has been going on for sometime, I just recently posted this just over a month ago. I don’t know if that is new for this situation or not, but I have been trying to resolve this issue prior to me submitting a forum post.

I will post new logs tonight when I get home from the server.

Thanks to everyone for assisting me with this. I have been pulling my hair out!!!

@sa2000

PubSubServer, there are several listings, but none are what I would consider a IP address.

Here is a fresh log.com.plexapp.system.log (52.1 KB)
Plex Media Server.log (194.7 KB)

Ok, the screen is showing red, however I am able to access via my iOS phone via cellular. If I refresh the page via “apply” it stays green, for a little while and then changes back to red. The music will only play for a short period and then I get the spinning wheel of death on my phone. So it looks like something is making progress.

New Log…com.plexapp.system.log (84.2 KB)
Plex Media Server.log (1.6 MB)

Update… I am now able to access my plex account from another computer on the same network. This was not working earlier, see thread, so that is now working also. PlexAmp still works like normal.

Cellular is spotty and keeps stopping. Plays a few seconds, stops. Then it comes on a few minutes later, plays, then stops.

SOLVED (Windows10):

The steps:

-Go to “Windows Defender Firewall”, then select “advanced configuration”
-There, select “Input rules”, and look for the Plex’s rules (Plex DLNA Server, Plex Media Server, etc…). Select all the items, and delete them.
-Reinstall Plex Media Server, and select Repair option
-Restart computer

Did you start playing and then switch to cellular or did you start playing on cellular? This kinda sound like you had part of the song buffered before switching.
