I have had Plex running behind PIA VPN and had port forwarding set up and it was working fine. But it just randomly has stopped working. I tried just turning the VPN off but no luck. I have even completely uninstalled the software and nothing. I did have it working for a short time with the VPN off and just manually specifying a port. But now the only way that I have gotten it to work occasionally is to turn off the manually specified port. When I try to turn on remote access it does turn green like it is going to work but usually with a second or two it goes red. I even factory reset my router and reset up the port forwarding but nothing. I am at a loss and don’t know what else to try. Anyone have any ideas???

well first i would rule out a carrier grade NAT
second if your ports are forwarded correctly and setup if above does not apply the issue could be
setup your PIA first before opening Plex then setup plex… you may also need a DDns service if the VPN changes configuration…

Never had heard of carrier grade NAT before but from a bit of googleing it looks like I don’t have this issue. My IP address is the same on my router and my public IP. I tried opening PIA before Plex but that didn’t work. I haven’t tried a DDns service before is there one that you would suggest? I have finally got remote access working again with manually specifying a port by reinstalling Plex. But I tried installing PIA again and as soon as I turn that on it stops working. Another thing I have been seeing before it didn’t work at all was my remote access would drop and then reconnect every hour. I use Tautulli to send me notifications on my server status.
from experience VPN and plex do not usually get along plex has more then one port requirement depending on what your after
