Remote Access Setup

So i am super fresh at this.
i have read alot of the blogs and forums and am still stuck.

I have a dedicated PC with windows 11 for my server
i have created a static IP for that computer
I have tried to forward the Port but im not 100% sure it has worked.
I have a huawei 659 modem/router
my pc is LAN connected not WAN
i may have the double NAT issue but not 100% sure.

Does anyone have what exactly i would need to enter into the Port forwarding section.

or experience in setting this up so it works remotely?

Cheers

You could use the steps outlined in this guide to check your setup (and to configure accordingly).

Correct public IP address… are you referring to double NAT? I am pretty sure I don’t have that problem, but is there a way to check for this?

I just installed Plex Media Server, removed all security software, ad blockers, checked the firewall on Windows 10, made sure the Plex port is forwarded, checked from outside that the port is open (canyouseeme.org), Plex says that Remote Access is enabled, but the Alexa Plex skill still cannot access my Plex server.
Specifically, 1) I don’t see Plex in the list of services I can add to the Alexa music and 2) When I say “Alexa, tell Plex to select a player”, she says, "Your Remote Access is enabled but Alexa cannot access (the name of my Plex server).

Is there any way to troubleshoot this? I feel so close, I can taste it. I really need this, because my wife likes to order songs via Alexa, and I don’t want to pay for Amazon Music any more.

Thanks,
Freddie

According to Alexa‘s own assessment, remote access doesn’t seem to be the problem in this case. I’m not sure what other obstacles there might be or how to troubleshoot this further.

Thank you for your response. By looking at the Plex server logs, I was able to see that it is trying to use at least 3 other ports. When I opened/forwarded those ports, I no longer get this error.
But now when I say “Alexa, tell Plex to select my player”, she is complaining that I don’t have any companion players. By further researching, I understand the concept of controller and receiver, I just don’t know how to add a new receiver/player, or how to set up a companion player.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already lost Amazon music subscription, and the wife is complaining that she can’t order songs any more.

Many clients have an option to advertise themselves as players.

The related support articles still list this as an option for the web player too, though it’s no longer available in the web app.
