Hello all! I’m going to start by saying I don’t know very much at all about networking, everything I know about computers I’ve taught myself so if I haven’t been in the situation to learn it yet I have no clue…Which brings me to my issues…So I started a Plex server maybe a year and a half ago after a friend of mine showed me his and I was amazed…fast forward everything worked great…for like 8 months…I got a new computer and upgraded my internet to gigabit shortly after. No matter what I’ve done I just keep having my server losing remote access, it will work sometimes and other times it won’t and it almost never works for my friends and family…
My breakdown is…I have a detached house from a main house, in the main house is the main Verizon gigabit router…I have 2 ethernet lines running to my house that is detached (1 is now unplugged as I’m now only using the router) Before I had one going straight to my PC and another to a switch to run into xbox and another into philips HUE lights. I have to have wifi in my house which wasn’t picking up from the other house as the main router is behind bricks and in the basement (if someone thinks getting something besides this secondary router please tell me a better idea) …I had the router set up and another switch and all, after taking to reddit I was told to set it up as a bridge, I have a TP Link Archer AX1500, I reran wires and now I have 1 main Ethernet line running to my house and it is going straight into my TP Link router into the WAN port, I contacted TP Link for some troubleshooting and they advised me to go to Tools/Operation Mode and turn on Access Point mode and said it would fix it…Now it seems the green check is sometimes on and sometimes not…My question is is there anything else I can also try to do? Or a way to show somebody a log?I saw something about DHCP and static IP? Unfortunately I know nothing about any of this or port forwarding or how to do it and why to do it or if I even need to? I was getting the double NAT message until I turned on access point mode…Also for reference I have wifi in my house and it works fine but I have made a new wifi name and password for my secondary router? Could that affect anything…I would do anything to get this thing working and am a plex pass user and have considered paying someone to come figure it out? It’s important to have this server going good…If anyone can help or suggest anything I’d be so grateful! thanks all
