Trying to enable remote access

Hello all,

I’ve enabled remote access on my Plex server but I have a message saying “Not available outside your network: Your server is signed in to Plex, but it is not reachable from outside your network. Tip: It looks like your server may be connected to the Internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this “Double-NAT” scenario.”

The computer I’m using as a server is connected to the Internet through a TP Link WiFi network. I only set that up because the remote access wasn’t working on wifi either, and I thought that might help, and the computer isn’t situated anywhere near the router! Is that message saying I have to be connected directly to the router through an ethernet cable for the remote access to work?

Thank you!

There’s many things that can impact your remote access setup.
In your case the server appears to have noticed that the router it’s connected to and the public IP visible outside your network are different – implying that you might have a network inside a network. Unless you segmented your network on purpose, make sure to configure the WiFi access point to extend your main router’s network, not to create a network of its own (most routers call that “bridge mode”).

Hiya,

OK, thanks for this… any tips on how to tell if it’s extended the network or created a different network? I just followed the instructions that came with the TP Link equipment, i.e. plug ethernet cable from router to one socket, link the two sockets, then plug ethernet cable from second socket to computer. I’m not massively technical so any help would be massively appreciated!

Also, as an aside, the remote access did start working randomly the other day but appears to have stopped again. I haven’t changed the set up at all.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Thanks

Check out the admin interface of the TP-Link.
Best check out the manual for your particular model, looking for key words like „bridge mode“ and „DHCP“

To update you… the remote access has started working again, of its own accord, without me changing the set-up! I think it might have just been being a bit temperamental before. Thanks v much for your help, really appreciate it
