Remote Access won't stay enabled

I am super frustrated trying to get my remote access to stay enabled. I’ve set up port forwarding, i’ve done everything i know how to do and yet when i enable remote access it will show fully available outside my network for about 20 seconds and then move back to not available outside my network.

I can’t access my router bc it’s a on a closed control 4 loop but they did set up forwarding. I have no idea where else i can go.

I have my computer set up with the plex server, i have my data attached on an NAS drive. I’ve looked at the trouble shooting and i don’t think i have a double NAT issue. Can anyone assist, is there someone at PLEX that can walk me thru this, i have the lifetime pass and it would really help to find someone to talk to here.

Have you verified you can see your server/machine from outside that network using the port forward they shared with you? For more details you’ll need to share some of the actual findings you got from the troubleshooting…

When you say verify do you mean just trying to connect to my server from somewhere that isn’t my home?

Because i lack the ability to mess with my router i have to trust that my control4 tech has done the work to enable port forwarding. I’ve read the article on troubleshooting, and it’s overwhelming to try and figure out what’s wrong. This is why i really need to talk to someone, step by step to see what’s missing, and why i can’t connect.

I’m asking my ISP provider to turn off their bridge mode to see if that will solve anything, but i’m wondering if i can do something on my WD Mycloud EX2 to assist. Somehow my system wants to allow remote access briefly but something is blocking it and I don’t know where to start.

See the linked guide… all you need is your router’s public IP (which should be visible in Plex) and a service like canyouseeme.org

This is your setup, correct?
Internet → ISP router <—> your router <—> Plex server

One of the routers must be in bridge mode, otherwise you will be in a double-NAT situation.

Plex remote access does not work in a double-NAT situation.

Ask if UPnP is enabled on the router.

Ask them for a screenshot of the port forwarding statement. If they cannot provide a screenshot, then ask for the details of the configuration.

Specifically:

  • External port ← 32400, or another “high” unassigned port.
  • Internal port ← Must be 32400
  • Internal IP address ← Must be the IP address of your Plex server
  • Protocol ← TCP
  • Source IP ← blank, all, etc. Varies by mfg. You do not want to limit the inbound IP addresses.

Port forward statement in my router, an Asus RT-AC68U:

Also, does your Plex server have a fixed IP address? This would be configured on the server itself or assigned by the router.

If not, have the Control 4 tech configure the router to reserve the current IP address for your server. The address must match the internal IP address in the port forward statement.

Example:

Yes, that’s my set up. I’ll get with the control4 tec and see if he can answer these questions.

Yes, what i need then is to have my ISP enable Bridge mode, sorry, I had that backwards. I’m trying that right now.
