For the past 4 weeks or so I have been seeing constant buffering on remote streaming via the Plex IOS app and my server.
My upload is approx 10Mbps, I have a hard remote access limit set of 8Mbps per stream (and I’m the only user), and also have the remote stream quality set in IOS App to 8Mbps. I have always run these settings with this setup for the past 2 years.
Since the new updates i’ve been noticing constant buffering, and I’ve noticed that when remote streaming, the plex dashboard shows constant peaks to 11Mbps remote bandwidth, depsite me having the limit set to 8Mbps. If I reduce the remote stream limit down to 4Mbps it plays fine, but again the dashboard peaks higher than 4Mbps.
Is there any logs I can provide or any way I can get around this buffering issues whilst keeping the 8Mbps stream limit set?
I don’t have any answers for you. I’m chiming in just to maybe keep this post going. I have a similar issue. I have a 40 Mbps upload, and I have a handful of remote users who report buffering and stuttering. I also check the bandwidth on my end, and yeah, the same thing is happening. I have a remote limit set to 8 Mbps, yet I see 20 Mbps being used on one play that should require only 4 or 8 Mbps. It’s only been since the new Plex has rolled out, so I assume it has something to do with that. I’ve had my settings for 10 years with no issues, so there is something going on. I’ve not been able to resolve anything so far. The only thing I’ve told my users who have this issue is to reduce the play to a lower bandwidth, and that seems to work for them for now, but I still see the bandwidth on my end taking up triple, sometimes more than it should. I hope someone can come up with a workaround or that Plex fixes this issue soon.
I am also wanting to keep any threads alive that are dealing with this issue. I am having a very similar problem and I created my own post about it here too.
Unfortunately I don’t have client logs because I can’t reproduce it at home as I am inside my LAN where issue doesn’t happen. I will try and get one of my more tech savvy remote users to generate one and I will post it here.
