Remote control functions unavailable

Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592 (latest on QNAP store), then 1.21.0.1410-50a34597 (latest official)
Player Version#: iOS v7.8.1, macOS v1.21.0.1410-50a34597

As of maybe a week ago I’m no longer able to see any of the actual remote control functionality (next/prev/pause/volume/etc) after starting playback on a different player. This is something that had been working for me perfectly for the last six months. It’s happening for all my controller/player combinations (multiple iOS/macOS devices on a range of OS versions). As far as I’m aware there have been no environmental changes to my network configuration (this is all on local network btw), or Plex server/client versions. All devices can see each other fine, there are no firewalls between any of the devices. Starting playback begins the video playing on the destination player, but on the controller it seems to get stuck trying to connect as a controlling device (see attached screenshot).

The only post on here that seemed like it might relate was in Remote control option gone - #18 by ecarlotti, from @biff.mcgerk, except I get the issue immediately on starting playback.

Anyone got any ideas?

try installing from the plex downloads https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ directly, the version on qnap app store is out of date

As I mentioned, I’ve tried with both 1.16.6.1592 (latest on QNAP store) and 1.21.0.1410-50a34597.

What version of iOS is on your device

iOS 14.0, 14.1, 14.2b.
macOS 10.15.7, 11b.

Just did some more testing of all combinations, and I can control when going from Mac to Mac. Mac to iOS doesn’t even see the destination. iOS to iOS, or iOS to Mac can start playback, but can’t control. I’ll see if I can dig out some older iOS devices to test.
