After updating the IOS app to the latest version the option to remote control is gone.
When I tap on the remote control icon (same icon for casting). I can select the remote player and select it. I can even remote play videos (this is buggy btw) but I cannot select the remote control with the directional buttons any more.
Same here, I use this function extensively for on-screen menu/library browsing and playback control on the remote controlled device (mac-mini) and for shutdown, because the electrical contacts in the apple remotes die faster that their batteries.
The removal of this function prevents me from going into the settings menu as well.
Yip I have the Plex app on my iPhone for Years to control Plex on my Mac mini connected to my TV and now since the update I no longer have the Control option to browse around menus and control the media
We’re sorry about this… we really hate taking away features that people might rely on, but this one required a fair amount of engineering resources to maintain, and was used by very few people, so it was hard to justify keeping it
Ok, thanks for letting us know, I was secretly hoping it was just broken.
Hmm anyone got any suggestions of remotes that might have similar functionality, cause it’s hack to have to get up and use the keyboard and mouse to move to another show / menu
Well because of this iOS “update”, I’ve just wasted 2 days trying to get LIRC working properly with plex, so I wouldn’t recommend that route.
Seems like there’s not enough engineering resources to maintain embedded plex media player, or plex on linux either. So I either have to purchase new hardware (still not convinced that will actually solve anything) or go back to OpenELEC, where everything actually works.
Remote play is buggy as hell, so how are we actually supposed to reliably use this software?
Hey, Jam. That’s an excuse for me. What is it that keeps changing that so many resources are needed? I’m very annoyed that the remote control is gone. Please think about it again and put it back in. Thank you and best regards
Why are the controls gone ? i pretty much have to unplex plex server to stop a movie now… WTF ? I will not support plex in the future for doing dumb things like this… Get it back in the app !@#
Yea but think about that means I have to get up off the couch, walk to the table where my keyboard and mouse are, move the mouse, click stop, use the arrow keys, browse to my next choice of movie or series, hit play and then walk back and sit down, all of this could have been done before from my phone.
Surely the whole point of Plex marketing itself as a media centre is to have remote control functionality?
I cant be the only person using Plex on my Mac mini playing on my 60’ tv in the living room, surely half the people using it are?
or just click the x on top right on your phone to stop it like I said. You can make all selections on your phone. even while playing something you can click the down arrow on top left to minimize the player controller and select something else or add to a play queue to auto play next.
I don’t see these controls on my IOS Plex app. They are there when you first start the movie/show. Once the phone/app goes to sleep and you wake it up, all controls are gone, i pretty much have to go to my computer, cancel the movie… Most importantly, where are those forward 10/back 10 / pause…etc where did they go ? why move them ? Plex is a PIA to even control now, i am looking for alternatives at this point…
I’m a Plex user since the beginning and have supported Plex all the way. I was a heavy user of the remote control on iOS app and seeing it gone has made me really mad about Plex.
If you think this is a hard feature to maintain, instead of just dropping it why not make it a separate app and publishing ir as an open source, so the community can maintain it?
That would be a lot better than simply dropping usable features out of the blue.
no, the plex IOS app… once the phone goes to sleep, when you wake it, the controls are gone, how do you get the pause, FF/RW buttons back ? i have to kill the movie from the server side !?
