Remote home players buffer, Server player doesn't

Running macOS 11.5.1 on a new iMac M-1 Mac with 16G of memory. I can play shows fine on the M1, but lately I’ve been finding that playing the same show on a MacBook will buffer almost constantly and be unusable. This does not happen with all shows. The iMac is connected to a Mesh router system and downloads from the internet are at 300Mbs on Wi-Fi so I know that the network from the iMac is not the bottleneck. What can I check or adjust to find out why remote (on my home network) Plex players are buffering?
