Remote library unavailable only on FireStick 4k

Server Version#:not known
Player Version#:7.25.1.14216

Hi, I have a fire stick 4k from Amazon, this was working fine until a couple of days ago, but then the remote library a friend shares with me went offline, I could see the library name, and the playlists, but they displayed an unavailable symbol. I restarted the fire stick, but no change. To check if it was the library I connected using my iPad, and then threw that picture onto the TV and it worked fine.

I cleared cache and reset the Plex app on the fire stick. Now I can see the library but there does not appear to be anything under it.

This is true on wired and wireless connections, and the iPad connects only using the same wireless network, through the same router connection.

I have a second fire stick 4k which is running 7.23.0.13618 and that is working fine.

Has anyone else come across this before and is there a way I can get it to refresh the connection? Any help gratefully received.

Dave

I have the EXACT same problem (on Fire TV Stick 4K app player rev 7.25.1.14216)… and tried the EXACT same fixes… same result. I don’t have another Fire TV Stick 4K with an older app rev to try. Help appreciated too.

Actually I had the problem on the Samsung app on the TV (it is an old 2012 TV), and that is what me move to the Fire Stick as the Samsung app was not being updated.

Can you roll back an app version?

This may have been corrected by Plex for Android version 7.25.3. Here are the release notes:

FIXES:

  • [TV] App would sometimes incorrectly display some servers as unavailable.

Note the bit about “a staged rollout.” You may not get it immediately.

Thanks for information that philipsw. i just checked by uninstalling and reinstalling and got the same version so i’ll give it another day. I’m new to the fire stick, is it possible to get the download package and manually update or do I just have to wait for Amazon t make it available?

Dave

The APKs are available for download at the link above (make sure to scroll down the page for the latest).

Thanks, when I look at the Amazon store it shows 7.25.1.14216 which I have , not 7.25.2 in the link, so can’t get the APK to upgrade with. Am I just missing something?

Dave

It’s still not rolled out to mine either; it sometimes takes a while for it to make it to Amazon’s app store. If you need it now, there are download links for the APKs in the thread I linked (the current version is 7.25.3):

Thanks again and sorry I didn’t see your link earlier. I installed 7.25.3.14365 and have exactly the same problem. Found the version I have on my other firestick (7.23.0.13018) and installed that and now the remote library is visible and can be accessed again. So I don’t think this issue is fixed in the latest version?

My daughter cannot find where the heck the “Update Library” button went on the latest update of PLEX on Amazon Fire, can someone offer me some step by step, and/or a photo? It’s no longer in the three black dots to the right of the category, not is it in the upper right corner like past iterations, what gives? I uploaded her favorite show for her birthday, but she cant see it because her plex has not updated the library for her- ugghhh. Thanks- Sad Dad!

Was not corrected, still fails on firestick 17.25.3.xxx but Google play store app still works on phone to broadcast to TV.

Exact same issue, on mine could see the new plex movies and TV, but none of my home library’s, showed the server, no library’s though, if I kicked off playback from phone though through the plex app linked to the fire4k played stuff just fine. Gone back to 7.23 and all fine.

Works for me till plex sort their new ‘free’ crap (well crap to me at least but hey) out and get personal servers working again.

Amazon still pushing the version that can’t connect. Have to roll back my previously working fire stick now. Any news of an update from anyone?

I think that I have the same issue, it keeps coming up with ‘ServerName Is Currently Unavailable’ even if it works fine on Plex for Windows and Android.

If I delete cache, stop the app and start it again, it works.

I rolled back to 7.23 and all works. Took me a few tries but here is what I did.

I already had Downloader on my firestick 4k
I downloaded the free version of ES File Explorer on Firestick. ignore the upgrade request
I then downloaded kepler-armv7a-amazon-stdExo-7.23.0.13018-f9b0a0fb.apk to my laptop downloads folder
Then use ES File Explorer to share your Firestick file system with your computer over wifi, it gives you a URL to connect.
I used FileZilla, a free FTP client to move the file kepler-armv7a-amazon-stdExo-7.23.0.13018-f9b0a0fb.apk from my computer to the Files folder on Downloader on the firestick
Then open up Downloader on your Firestick, navigate to files folder on the left menu and you should see the Kepler… file there. Click on it to install and open.

Note/Issue:

I tried the Google Play version of Plex first, but it was never showing up in the Apps folder on Firestick, so I uninstalled and installed the file above which is for Firestick.

It also does now show up in the Apps folder, so to use Plex, I hit the microphone button on Firestick remote, say “plex”, and it brings up Plex like it wants to install it, but when I click on it, Plex opens up and is fully configured with my account info etc and works fine. Since working, i can deal with the extra voice command step.

Also, in the settings on firestick, you may need to allow 3rd party programs to install files on the firestick. I already had this turned on due to some other stuff to run, Downloader may give you an error message and direct you to do this if you have not already enabled 3rd party apps.

Here is the official Plex download page Plex for Android

uyensa has the right idea but I had a problem using the free version of ES File Explorer. I was able to install 7.23 just using Downloader. After uninstalling the current version of Plex and installing the Downloader app, I followed the instructions from this site, using Option Two:
https://www.howtogeek.com/336602/how-to-sideload-apps-on-the-fire-tv-and-fire-tv-stick/

Enter this address to download the older version of Plex: shorturl.at/acoy5
It’s a direct link to download the Plex 7.23 apk.
