Update frequency fire stick client

using fire stick 4k client with windows server right next to each other under the TV and the client is not updating for many hours - continuing to show video files that were deleted by the same app for hours and sometimes days later. i don’t see this issue with the android client - please advise if it can refresh at least once per hour? when i manually request library refresh nothing appears to happen. thanks! brad

The Fire Tv app is an Android client. Are you referring to mobile? The app should update when you navigate from screen to screen. There is no update screens after Xtime setting. if you force quit app then launch does it update? it is only the home screen not updating or when opening a library? Are you deleting from the app on Firetv or do you mean you are deleting from the web app

when you move among screens the fre tv app does not update at all - even though i have just deleted a video after watching it - i just get that weird error screen saying the media is gone - well that’s kinds obvious right since i just deleted it? the files refresh fine on android phone, not on fire tv device. i don’t know how to force quit an app on fire stick, but a reboot of the entire fire stick device does not update the library. same for home screen and each library/folder i follow. deleting from the fire stick app. let me know what else i can do to troubleshoot - thanks.

can i get some help with this please? still am seeing old deleted files which are not on the server listed in the firetv plex app. please advise if this can be fixed or if i should sideload the android version on to the fire stick to fix it? thanks.

It comes and goes.

I’ve found the best way to run the Plex App on FireTV is to (FireTV Settings):

Manage Applications
Plex App
Force Stop
Clear Cache

each time before you use it - then do the same as necessary when it blows up while using it.

Long time Plex App on FireTV Victim - and it’s not ever been anything except an embarrasment in the last decade. I have no confidence it will ever be a decent app - if history is any indication of future/current events.

Glad to see I’m not the only one miffed at the quality of this app. Coming from Roku, it’s especially galling, as Roku Plex is darn near bulletproof.

Tried logging out of Plex on the Fire Stick to fix an issue, ensuring “auto login” was enabled. Not only did it NOT log me in automatically, it required me to re-link the app thru my server PC. It also lost my sidebar sort preferences. :frowning:

It’s the same app. as on other Android TV devices like the Shield. The only difference is codec support.

so i gather from that comment you are saying don’t bother? it does seem like plex currently has it’s primary interests in areas other than the app area such as finding more content. thanks.

Don’t bother with what? You asked “has anyone used the android app on fire stick?” I was only pointing out that the Fire stick is an android device and runs the android app.

Amazon devices especially the stick have very low memory and where many issues like this end up being the cause of. I know that is going to seem like I am blaming Amazon and wiping our hands from it but our dev are always trying to find ways to improve memory usage.

bigwheel: i was asking if i should try sideloading the android phone app to the fire tv stick to see if it functions better on refresh - the fire specific app does a refresh every 12 hours or so to my plex server located 12 inches away and manual refresh is non functional. i have cleared a gig of memory on the fire stick just in case that could be an issue. i have gotten no memory related error messages or warnings from the app and i would assume the app would inform me if it could not perform a function due to lack of memory. thanks!

It’s the same APK so it will just launch the Android TV version of app.

Can you provide the server logs after adding something new or something new shows up in on Deck and the player app logs after moving from home screen and back and it the new item does not show up.

Also in the app settings in the experience row can you make sure “reduce motion” is off

(on fire stick 4k) My Home Screen won’t refresh. I force quit the app and cleared the cache, it still won’t refresh. On Deck is days out of date. Is there a way to manually refresh?

JonnoN: there is a refresh button just to the left of the library name under … - try that - it does not work for me but might work for you.

The “…” to the left of “Home” just takes me to Manage Home Screen. If I go down the list to More and show the servers, there is no “…”. I can’t find a refresh anywhere.

What’s really weird is that On Deck is keeping up with the proper episodes, but there are shows missing from the list. Recently Added is not updating.

He might be talking about the option to “scan library files”. which is the same as if you do it on the server.
