I have been using Plex on my Smart TV (running Vivo) via the Plex app for months, to watch my own files held on my Plex Server. I have a remote watch pass and have also been watching remotely. The TV and server/computer are on the same network.
Yesterday, when trying to watch something held on my server on the TV I got a message on screen saying that I needed to purchase a Remote Pass in order to watch it. This confused me for two reasons: 1. I have a remote pass, and 2. The devices are on the same network. I had not changed any settings in the 12 hours since I last watched something on the TV. And I was able to access remotely via other devices
After some investigation, I discovered that the TV (and all other devices) was connecting to the server via a relay, not ‘remotely’ or directly. I have managed to resolve this by playing with my firewall/VPN settings, and the TV is now showing as connecting remotely, rather than via relay. But the message still appears asking me to buy a pass.
I have been through the various suggestions of how to get the TV and server to ‘see’ each other, eg updating DNS, firewall white listing, ensuring set to private network, port forwarding, etc. but I’m at a loss. Especially since it shouldn’t matter if they’re on different networks anyway, as I have a remote watch pass.
Any thoughts?
