Remote play - works to Plex HTPC app but not to Plexamp

For the last year or two I’ve been using Plexamp to remotely play music from my phone to my desktop PC. Setup like this: Plex Server running on desktop. Then I open Plexamp on both desktop and phone. Then I choose the Desktop’s Plexamp as a Remote Player in the phone Plexamp app.

Lately, whenever I do this, I get the dreaded ‘Cannot connect to remote player’ message on my phone. I have also tried doing the same from my laptop, same result. And in fact, even in the other direction - use desktop Plexamp to play on laptop Plexamp - same result.

Then just now, I remembered that I also have the Plex HTPC program installed on my desktop. I opened that, and was able to connect to it immediately from the Plexamp app on both my phone and laptop.

Does anyone know what could cause this? Is Plexamp just broken?
