Hello,
I am having problems when streaming to a remote client.
While there is no problem in finding my server and starting a video, it keeps buffering every few seconds.
The server’s internet connection is 120Down and 20Up and the client’s is 18Down and 1Up.
I am running the server on a Windows 10 and the client is running either on a PS4 or a Roku stick.
I have attached the logs of the last 3 attempts.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thank you in advance.
I say it is your media format.
U failed to mention size and format of your media.
You server, connections and players are unlikely the issue.
If anything is wireless that can be an issue . Wired=good, wireless=bad
Subtitles can also be an issue - turn them off as a test
Try some smaller mp4 shows or movies.
Like a 2-3 gb x.264 MP4 movie and see how it goes.
The file I was trying to play is indeed a small 1gb x264 movie.
I am always on a wired connection.
Playing the movie without subtitles shouldn’t be an option, as it is in a foreign language.
The subtitles appear to be forcing the video to transcode. From provided log files (burning = video transcoding):
selected subtitle cannot be converted to a compatible format, burning into video stream
As @spikemixture suggests, as a test, try playing the video without subtitles. This will help diagnose the problem.
With subtitles off, does the remote client still experience buffering?
While the video is playing remotely, check the status via Plex Web (Status → Dashboard). Is the media direct playing or transcoding?
Also check the settings of the remote client. Look for any settings that would limit the bandwidth. If you see a setting for “Adjust Automatically,” set it to off, as this can cause transcoding. Also, look for a setting such as “Remote Streaming.” Set it to maximum/original/etc. (Those are AndroidTV settings. I do not have a Roku/PS4, so unsure of exact setting names on those platforms).
