Im trying to get my brothers Apple TV directly connected to my Plex server at my home with PlexConnect without running a PlexConnect server at his house.
The Apple TV automatically searches for DNS servers on port 53, so I have set all inbound traffic to my router on port 53 to go to my PlexConnect DNS server. My brother types in my outward-facing IP adress on his Apple TV and it connects to my PlexConnect DNS server and voila that part seems to be working fine.
Now he has to install the SSL certificate on his Apple TV to get that part working and that is where I have run into some problems. I have tried simply to have him type in the local IP of my plexserver along with /trailers.cer as I have done with all my Apple TVs at home. But that didnt work. Also tried to upload cert file to dropbox and have my brother try and type the link in for that. Didnt work either.
Any suggestions on what to do now? My plexconnect log tells me he is connecting fine to my DNS server, but what about the certificate?

This is possible if u have atv2. We are working on atv3. In the mean time you can do this to get it working at your brothers house.
I read that article, the problem is that my brother is not a computer guy and he can't setup a Plexconnect at his house and I can't visit him in the foreseeable future, so I was hoping that he could just use my Plexconnect server and tunnel through my servers.
But are you telling me that even if I got the certificate installed on his Apple TV it wouldn't work anyway?

Thanks for the reply.

Do you understand the implications of opening a vanilla DNS server to the world?
It will be used as a DDOS tool by hackers, please stop forwarding port 53 on your router unless you really know what you are doing and know how to lock it down.
When you use the pms to allow without auth setting, doesn’t that keep unwanted people from viewing your content. You only open your pms port on your router to use the plexconnect on the go method. Everything else is done with plexconnect at the remote site, and the atv of course. Unless im not following what you meant
My point is about opening port 53 and access to a DNS server, something the op specifically said he had done.
I don’t know if anyone using a Plex media server to attack other computers.
Yeah u don’t have to open port 53. Baa made it so it’s a matter of choosing your port from the webserver ip. Then switching on gdm on for when you’re home. And gdm off when you’re away.

It will rain vanilla ice cream!!!! Obviously I'm just kidding here.
with myplex why is this even an issue? if hes not a computer guy and have a mac go with plexify.. even my mother managed to install using the guide in that( shes really really retarded on computer things :D ) and if he dont have a mac just use vnc to enter his computer and set it up for him, or wait for plexify for windows that is should be coming any day now..
then u dont havto open ports or anything.. just log in to myplex and kaboom there it is :)
